Welcome to the Saints That Serve Podcast, where each week your hosts dive into the crossroads of faith, culture, and the unknown. Christ is Lord, and the kingdom is now. We are the Saints that serve. Johnny told me I couldn't do a funny bit opening this episode. So this is me in a very professional manner introducing episode 71 of the Saints That Serve podcast. That's the Saints That Serve podcast. And this is me being incredibly professional, Jarrus. I like MPR Jarrus. It's not MPR Jarrus, it's professional Jairus. Yeah. They're professionals, right? Johnny insulted my first three attempts because they were all producing the episode.
SPEAKER_05:They were all the same thing. You were like, oh, I'm going to do this voice or oh, I'm going to do this bit. And it was all like, well, you're doing the same thing over and over again.
SPEAKER_02:They were all very high brow, very professional, very high quality intros.
SPEAKER_04:Oh, I won't play porn cash. Will you play porn cash with me?
SPEAKER_02:I won't play podcast. I won't play podcash.
SPEAKER_04:Well, we'll play podcast.
SPEAKER_02:Thank you. Yeah. So do you want to explain that real quick for anybody who missed last week's episode? Yeah, go back and listen to last week's episode. And you'll know why John is still working on a rushing nesting doll maze puzzle. A whole week later. He's still doing it. Or is it in real time? Or is it still 15 minutes ago? Hey. It was 15 minutes ago in real time. But for you, it's been a whole seven days. Hey John, do you got any announcements?
SPEAKER_05:Uh yeah, we pray for you every Friday. We play for you every single Friday. Yep. Every single Friday.
SPEAKER_02:John's so distant and unfocused due to the puzzle he is working on. Would you say, Willis? What are you talking about?
SPEAKER_05:Anyways, uh, yeah, so if you need prayer, reach out to us through social media or through our email, thesaintsthetserve at gmail.com. Oh, we've got the Think Yourself podcast at gmail.com. No, it's just the SaintsThatserve at gmail.com. Or you can follow the messaging app, the link for the messaging app at the bottom of the description for this episode. Yay! Anyways, yeah, so that's it for announcements. Pray for you every Friday. If you need prayer, reach out to us. And now we're ready. Are we ready? I am. Are you? Hi, aye, Captain. Okay, well, let us introduce the third and probably most professional voice of the show.
SPEAKER_02:That's right.
SPEAKER_05:Welcome back, everybody.
SPEAKER_02:Ashley. Hey. Before you say something, Ashley, uh, I need you to go ahead and roll that dice right there. I don't see a dice. Because there's not one, just pretend.
SPEAKER_05:Just say you rolled a 20.
SPEAKER_02:All right, what does that number say on that dice?
SPEAKER_00:20.
SPEAKER_02:Oh, Nat 20? Nat 20. Of over a 100-sided dice. Ooh. Great. I handed you an invisible 1,000-sided dice, and 20 is the worst possible number. Well then. So I'm gonna need you to introduce this podcast like a little baby.
SPEAKER_00:Oh, I don't think I can.
SPEAKER_02:I don't have a baby voice. Good job. You just babied out. All right.
SPEAKER_00:Well, yeah.
SPEAKER_02:Wan. Just say episode 71, weh. In a baby voice.
SPEAKER_00:Episode 71. I really don't have a baby voice. I don't know what that.
SPEAKER_05:Oh my god. I love that you think all country southerners are babies.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, all she did was a country voice. She just goes to a country store up in the Appalachians and she's just like, you sound like a child.
SPEAKER_02:You know how those northern people are. You know what I mean? Always belittling us good old-fashioned southern boys.
SPEAKER_05:Good old-fashioned, regular old, stinky old, southerny old boys.
SPEAKER_02:That's right. If if in if no one knows, this is my wife, Ashley.
SPEAKER_05:Oh, hey, congratulations.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, it's only been two years now.
SPEAKER_05:Hey, remember. From last week, yes, cotton. Last week. Two-year wedding anniversary, something in cotton.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, that's right.
SPEAKER_00:That's the gift we had to give you.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, the first year was supposed to be paper or plastic. Paper or plastic. So I was supposed to take you to a grocery store and let you choose.
SPEAKER_05:Uh Kroger Publix, because they do plastic bags. Unlike Aldi makes you buy your own. Yeah. The Germans.
SPEAKER_02:And they make you use your own when you're like you have to bag it yourself at Aldi. Yeah. And you have to pay for your shopping cart. Yeah. Aldi.
SPEAKER_00:That's how they keep prices low, though.
unknown:Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:They also like their workers allowed to sit. I don't want some lazy person scanning my items.
SPEAKER_00:Right.
SPEAKER_02:They already got the easiest job in the world.
SPEAKER_05:You can also take out an interest loan and pay for only half your groceries. And then pay off the ground. Oh my gosh. So they're thinking. You know what I mean? Like they're thinking over there. Layaway groceries. Like, why are we standing to check people out? We just sit here. Well, tell me a good reason why, you know. Anyways, all right. Well, I feel like we should go ahead and get into this. Get stuck in it. Get stuck in it. I think the last time I'm not going to say it, but I agree with you.
SPEAKER_02:Yes. Yes. British recurring joke on the podcast. She's like, I was there. I was there when that launched. I was going to say the last time she was on the podcast was that episode. Episode.
SPEAKER_05:When we spent 30 minutes just keep on doing an it-nit bit.
SPEAKER_02:It-nit bit. Yeah. Yeah. Which is actually funny enough, sitting at this table too. Yeah, what do you know? This was the last, the last time we recorded in this room was at this table was the last time Ashley was on the show.
SPEAKER_05:And this will be the last time that we record ever. In this room. No, I'm just kidding.
SPEAKER_02:So yeah, so last year recorded a it was a supplemental or a bonus episode. We did a thing. Yeah, we did a thing. It was a bonus episode where we bidded on movies. We called it our summer movie draft 2025.
SPEAKER_05:We bidded it.
SPEAKER_02:We bidded it in it.
SPEAKER_06:We bidded it.
SPEAKER_02:And so yeah, we purchased all movies, and the goal of that was in real time how much that movie made. Uh we bought the movies with a with a I'm screwing this up so bad. With a fake VPN. No, we had a budget for overall, and we bid on the movies, and then we got those movies, and now we had to see who won who had the most profitable movies in their roster. Correct. And so for the very first time, even though we've already seen these when we were opening it just now, we're gonna reveal these results of who won that. And the winner is Johnny's. That's me, had a whopping$385,662 and 105 cents. No,$105,000. I I'd read that poorly.$385,662,105 plus$2 left over. So I came in at least third place.
SPEAKER_00:At least.
SPEAKER_02:I'm pretty sure. And then the winner with a whopping one billion four hundred and ninety-seven thousand nine hundred and seventy nine. I do that so bad. I don't know how to number. It's such a large number. It's an unfathomable number. It's not unfathomable.
SPEAKER_05:It's unfathomable.
SPEAKER_02:Alright, then somebody else read that number.
SPEAKER_05:One billion four hundred ninety-seven minutes.
SPEAKER_02:No, quick. You're doing it too slow.
SPEAKER_05:979,752 dollars. That's Ashley.
SPEAKER_02:Plus no plus zero because she spent every penny. She went all out. She went all out. All out. And that's why she won.
SPEAKER_00:It was worth every penny.
SPEAKER_02:That's right. Every virtual penny. That's right. So you won. Congratulations, Ashley, for being our two uh two uh the year 2025, 2025, summer movie winner. Want a Sprite cranberry? And you won a Sprite Cranberry.
SPEAKER_00:Oh, really?
SPEAKER_02:That's right. No, there's no. You'll have to wait till Christmas to get it though.
SPEAKER_00:Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah. So who when we find it in a random Dollar General? Right? Because that's what I had to do. So apparently some movies weren't bought. Oh, that's right, because it broke, right? Yeah. It broke, so we didn't end up being able to, you know, purchase all the movies. But but none of them was looking at these, I didn't did you see Horizons 2?
SPEAKER_00:Um, I saw it only today when I was looking at it. Um, but no.
SPEAKER_02:No, it never came out, it looks like.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, I was gonna say I thought they postponed them because the first movie, this was be a saga, right? The first movie didn't do too well, so yeah.
SPEAKER_02:So the only one on this list that we didn't bid on was Demon Slayer.
SPEAKER_00:Uh yeah, I saw that. That would have been a game changer.
SPEAKER_02:That would have been a large amount, yeah. Which that movie was very good. Oh, it was, was it? Yeah, you saw Demon Slayer, right? No. The Demon Slayer, the movie Infinity Castle. You didn't see that?
unknown:No.
SPEAKER_02:What are you what are you taking me for? They're slaying demons.
SPEAKER_05:They're the heroes. I I was talking more about like just watching movies.
SPEAKER_02:I saw so the the whole entire plot of Demon Slayer is like them, you know, fighting off these. They're like more like ghouls, not really demons. They call them demons, but they're like ghouls. Uh-huh. And uh like schoolgirls. Yeah, ghoul ghouls. This is this is this the baby episode now? Yeah. He's too focused. You're never gonna solve this. I'm sorry. How dare you! So I saw a video like where this guy was walking around a comic book store pretending to be a pastor, and he's like, Demon slayer. Oh, wait, and like they're wearing like a black get up, and like one of the characters has like a white collar looking thing. Oh, it's a pastor. He said, Oh, it's a pastor. This man is slaying demons. So, what was your each person's top grossing movie?
SPEAKER_05:My well, let's go first since she went, you know. Since she won.
SPEAKER_00:Um mine was Superman, actually, uh, which grossed 353 million nine hundred and eighty thousand roughly dollars, which is how many points did you spend on that? Uh only six points.
SPEAKER_02:Only six points. Yeah. For what is that total one more time?
SPEAKER_00:Three hundred and fifty-three million nine hundred and eighty thousand and forty-seven dollars.
SPEAKER_02:I my uh my highest grossing movie was How to Train Your Dragon. Yep. Yep. And I spent twenty-eight points on that, and it made less than Superman at$262,958,100. How many points did you spend on it? 28. How many points did you spend on Superman?
SPEAKER_00:Six.
SPEAKER_05:Dang, that's that's the winner right there. Yeah mine is Lilo and Stitch live action. I spent 12 points on it, and it did$423,767,000. Jeez. I spent one point. Everyone was mad about it.
SPEAKER_02:It wasn't a good movie. It wasn't. Everyone was mad at that movie. It wasn't good. I bought Magic Farm for one point, and it only made$84,000. Whatever that movie even is, apparently no one knew. Uh-uh. Most of mine were really low. The only one I really probably one of my favorite movies, and I purposely bought it because I knew I was gonna like this movie. I bought it for 26 points, and it was friendship, and it made 16 million dollars. I love that movie. It's so funny. It is so funny.
SPEAKER_00:So I guess these are just the domestic uh dollars in case anyone's ever gonna compare. It doesn't like we include the international.
SPEAKER_02:So this isn't we're um I would like to do this again whenever this is up. It might be up and running, but we'll have to get together again on another bonus episode at some point to to bid and see who uh wins this time. I know I'm gonna take a lot what I learned from this uh uh last year. Like don't bid 28 points on a on a movie that doesn't get me a lot of money, you know, maybe bid six points. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. What was your favorite movie from last year, Ashley?
SPEAKER_00:That is a good point from this list or just in general?
SPEAKER_02:Uh you know, in general.
SPEAKER_00:You know, honestly, uh, I don't even remember. I would have to look at the AMC about what we saw, you know, an EMC. I mean from this list, I'm trying to look and see that the list of things I bid on. Honestly, it might be it might be Superman or the Fantastic Four. Um no no no never mind. It's F1, yeah.
SPEAKER_02:I was gonna say F1's on this list.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, F1. I'm sorry. I was just I was looking at it right when you right when I was missing.
SPEAKER_02:You know what's on your list that you bought? Oh, you finally did it. Finally. Finally, you cut that out, young man. I see that I know what you did last summer is on this list that you bought for five points, and you couldn't pay me to re-watch that movie. It was so terrible. It was such a bad movie. Oh, it was awful.
SPEAKER_05:All right, let's see if we can do our lowest to highest ratio. What did we spend the least on and gross the most? Yours is Superman, obviously.
SPEAKER_02:Mine would probably be. Well, Ashley, you have a movie you bought that never came out.
SPEAKER_00:Uh yeah, you The Ruse.
SPEAKER_02:The Ruse. Yeah. Toxic Avenger did two million. Really? That's on Hulu now. Yeah. It's labeled though as coming out in 2023 on Hulu, which is odd.
SPEAKER_04:Interesting.
SPEAKER_05:Um, it looks like for me, it would have to be Weapons. I bought it for two points, and it did 149 million.
SPEAKER_02:Alright, so we went and saw weapons. That movie was actually really good. Yeah. I really like that movie. Spooky movie, real spooky movie, but like really good world b building in the sense or building the tension in the scenes. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Really good film uh cinematography in that movie. Cinematography. It was really good. So, yeah, what was your favorite? Did so how did you feel, John, about your seven million dollar movie Clown in a Cornfield?
SPEAKER_05:Clown in a Cornfield for$700 million. You know, I don't have any feelings about it.
SPEAKER_02:Why not? I care not. Okay, even better. How many on movies on your list did you see for both of y'all? Ooh.
SPEAKER_05:Let's see here. I watched one. One movie. What movie is that? The Naked Gun. We went we went and saw that. That was a funny movie. That was a funny movie. Odd to be honest, it should have done better than it did.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah.
SPEAKER_05:It was really funny.
SPEAKER_02:Ironically, off of my list, I've only seen two of the movies.
SPEAKER_00:I think I saw seven. I counted seven out of uh the movies that I had, which I think had roughly around like 18 movies. I'm just eyeballing it, I don't know, more or less.
SPEAKER_02:Me and Ashley go to a lot of movies, and out of my my short movie list, I was really banking on how to train your dragon. And it made a lot of money, but it didn't make the money that it needed to.
SPEAKER_05:Ashley's philosophy was like, do what you love and the money will come. Yep. I'm only gonna get movies that I want to see that I'll enjoy, not that I want to see because they're whatever.
SPEAKER_07:Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, Magic Farm Smurfs, The Last Radio Rodeo, Dangerous Animals Fight or Flight, The Surfer and the Karate Kid Legends. Didn't see a single one of those movies. Karate Kid.
SPEAKER_00:The interesting thing was that a lot of our movies, at least a lot of mine, are remakes or you know, sequels and things like that. So, I mean, kind of put money on things that you know you kind of already know their established series. So, like I know what you did last summer, you know, uh Freaky or Friday was on my list, Megan 2.0, Mission Impossible, The Final Reckoning, Final Destination Bloodline.
SPEAKER_02:That was your most points spent on a movie was uh Mission Impossible.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. Um, yeah, and it didn't really do that well compared to other movies when we didn't see it. At one point I wanted to, but I guess there wasn't really a lot of hype around it.
SPEAKER_02:No, I heard a lot of people say it was it was mid.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. It's hard to finish a series, right? You know.
SPEAKER_02:Is that the end or is that just I heard that they're probably gonna make more after this.
SPEAKER_00:I heard that, well, I mean, that was part two of the movie because we saw the one before that, but we didn't see the last.
SPEAKER_02:To my understanding, like they built up like this was gonna be a sequel, and then people are saying you really don't need to watch the other ones to watch this new one. I don't know. Maybe, maybe I have to watch it. I still haven't seen it. Oh, you haven't, have you? Mm-hmm. Oh I'm just going through these movies that was on your list, and uh I know what you did last summer. We watched that, but we watched that at home.
SPEAKER_00:That's true.
SPEAKER_02:I'm glad we watched that at home.
SPEAKER_05:What is it you guys did because you went and saw Lilo and Stitch, but you did it in a way to where it didn't count for me. What did you get to do? We went on our um Oh yeah, yeah. You went out of the country.
SPEAKER_02:We were we watched it out of the country.
SPEAKER_05:Like, hey, we watched your movie, but it didn't count for you.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, our money didn't count towards you because we watched it in Paris.
SPEAKER_06:Stupid.
SPEAKER_05:Because yeah, that movie totally helped you out. Yeah, that was gonna be my winner if you guys went and seen it.
SPEAKER_07:Yeah.
SPEAKER_05:Oh watch it. You guys were the deciding factor because Ashley and I were pretty close. Only off by a couple million. You did good with Fantastic Four as well.
SPEAKER_02:Me? Ashley or I was like, I don't even have that. Uh with it being it was your second, yeah, it was your second highest uh profitable movie.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:And you only paid four points for that movie.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, honestly, I didn't think it was gonna be that good because it was Marvel and they were still kind of recovering from this.
SPEAKER_02:The marvelness.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, the marvelness of it all.
SPEAKER_02:But you can say Disney. The Disneyless. Of of Marvel. Yeah. I like that movie. I really liked the Fantastic Four. It they they really did a good job with that movie. I really like Fantastic Mr. Fox. Yeah, are you finally catching up on movies? Yeah. Uh Superman still probably one of my favorite last year, just kind of looking through it. Out of your list, I've only seen we only saw contributed to this three on my list. I mean, looking at it, right? Because oh no, Megan's all there on there too.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, I kind of like seven.
SPEAKER_02:Oh, and Bowerina, I need to relook at lists.
SPEAKER_00:I think six we saw in theaters, and then we did see I Know What You Did Last Summer at Home.
SPEAKER_02:And Final Destination as well. Well, you went and saw that with friends, and I saw it at home.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, I saw that.
SPEAKER_02:Which was a good movie. It was a good movie.
SPEAKER_00:I really liked that one.
SPEAKER_02:We well ended up watching all those other ones, and that was probably one of the best ones.
SPEAKER_00:And like uh Scary Movie with Scary Movie, I think like Final Destination is one of my you know horror movie uh what do you call them, like sagas or whatever that I really like, you know?
SPEAKER_02:You said scary movie. Do you mean Scream?
SPEAKER_00:Uh oh sorry, yeah. No, well hold on. Wait, is it scary movie? Which one was the with the bad ghost faces in? Which one is that? Scream. Oh yeah. Never mind, Scream. I'm sorry. I'm gonna say Scream and um Final Destination.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, those were really entertaining. Johnny. Yeah. How how'd you feel about twenty-eight years later? You know, Bob?
SPEAKER_05:I know that it uh was that it happened. And it did all right for a horror movie, I feel like.
SPEAKER_00:We saw that one with my sister. I don't know, were we in Foley, Alabama?
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, we were in Alabama when we went and saw that. So it counted for you. Yeah. And my sister walked out. Yeah, your sister left. And ironically, we went and saw the sequel to 28 Years Later. It was 28 Years Later, The Bone Temple. Yeah. And we walked out on that one. One of the first times I've ever walked out on a movie. Really? Yeah. That bad.
SPEAKER_00:I couldn't do it.
SPEAKER_02:It was, it's not, it was it as much as we watch, it wasn't a bad movie. It was just so brutal. Yeah. Without getting too detailed, it just so graphic. And just make just make you squirm in your seat the whole time, you know? Oh really? Yeah, it was it wasn't scary or anything. It was just I wasn't scared. It really wasn't a scary movie. It was just disturbing.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, it's more like it's not it's not quite suspense, but you know, when you're in a movie and you just you kind of want to turn away, like, I don't know how to explain it. It's just really gross to me. So I mean I just had to I had to take it, I had to go out. I'm like, I don't need to suffer through this. I'm not I didn't I don't know. I was more like, okay.
SPEAKER_02:You you watch too many people suffer. Yeah. And that's hard to watch in a movie. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:They did the whole um, you know, how like The Walking Dead in those movies as the when I'm the show as it goes along, it becomes more about the people, tormenting them. Less about the zombies. Yeah, and that's kind of what that what was going on. It was kind of like a we're watching just some weird stuff. I mean, the whole doctor and he wants to save the infected people, and so he's trying to form relationships with them, and it's just weird to me. I'm like, this thing might eat you. Stop trying to be its friend, and then they're just a gangster mob group that's just tormenting other people and taking their resources, which yeah.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, them torturing people and then taking their stuff. And we don't have to get too much into it, but yeah, that movie was uh that was something else. Uh what's our time on our countdown right now? Because I think it's a good time to We have got 35 minutes left. Okay. Does anybody have anything else to say about their movies on this draft?
SPEAKER_05:Uh, I'm gonna be honest. I am a little upset about Jurassic World. I guess it was kind of expected. That was it did good. I was expecting it to do better than Lilo and Stitch, though. Yeah. And it didn't. That's the thing, right? We went and saw that movie. Mm-hmm. And it I no, I I heard afterwards it wasn't good. Even when it was I saw the commercial for it, I was like, what the What are they doing? Why are they making a snub-nosed T-Rex mutant dinosaurs?
SPEAKER_02:Okay, here's the thing about that movie. Half of that movie was completely unnecessary.
SPEAKER_00:They tried to do too many callbacks due, like to the you know, bronchiosaurs, I think, with it walking in the field and playing the music and just like, you know, I'm not gonna be able to do that.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, they tried to do this, like hit the nostalgia feeling.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:And it's like the the group of everybody going to the island ends up on the island getting split up. So now you're jumping back and forth from the A plot and the B plot, and it's hard to tell which plot was worse. Yeah. Like you could take out one of them. I guess you them following the main plot of they go to the island and they're looking for specific dyno DNA to cure diseases.
SPEAKER_05:What? Yeah, never done that before.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, no, it's a lot of redoing the same plot, and the other half is watching people survive. So it's like in some parts, it's like it's more interesting to watch the people survive on the island, and the other half is them, it's sometimes interesting to see them collecting the the DNA, but neither one of them are fully entertaining enough to say I would prefer one over the other. It's just it's a whole lot of almost there moments in a whole in the in the full movie. Like again, half the movie was unnecessary, and I can't tell you what half would fix it if it was removed.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, they had well the part with the family, with the with the two daughters, the father and the boyfriend, that part I think most people agreed.
SPEAKER_02:We don't know why this is in the Yeah, it was completely unnecessary, but some of those segments were interesting, like entertaining to watch them run from a T-Rex up until like the what was it, the T-Rex like stopped because of a raft or something like that?
SPEAKER_00:No, I think if the T-Rex bit a raft and the raft didn't like immediately like inf dis deflate, it just uh like like a not it should have popped like a balloon and this thing kind of just slowly deflated. I don't think it deflated, did it? No, I think it's a lot of it.
SPEAKER_02:That's right, it didn't even it bit the thing and it didn't deflate at all.
SPEAKER_00:And it just popped up like popped around or whatever. You know, just like what's going on here?
SPEAKER_02:It was yeah, just a whole lot of problems with the movie in a general sense. Floppy disk. Floppy disk, yeah. But you know, the naked gun was good. We talked about that.
SPEAKER_00:I was gonna say my commentary would be that like F1 being, you know, it was a racing movie, had Brad Pitt in it, it had um, I forget his name, Damon Idris. Is that his name maybe?
SPEAKER_02:Damon.
SPEAKER_00:Not quite. But uh you got another layer done. The unique movies, um, or like not the sequels were actually, you know, probably the most entertaining movies last year.
SPEAKER_02:I will say I did like Nobody Two.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, and I mean I did like uh Final Destination Bloodlines, but you know, it's it was a sequel, but it wasn't it wasn't really a connec well, it kind of was connected. Yeah, connected to the older movies.
SPEAKER_02:You didn't have to you didn't have to watch the other ones though to watch Bloodlines.
SPEAKER_00:But it'd be cool if you did. It was it did actually did a good job of throwing back or doing throwbacks to ri like older movies, but not in a corny way, like you know, not like I'm gonna say the Zex scene freeze. I was in the first Final Destination. It did it in a way that connected it to earlier movies.
SPEAKER_02:It was a good sequel.
SPEAKER_00:It was a good one, yeah. So yeah.
SPEAKER_02:Like Blade. Which one? Me and Ashley have watched the first two Blades and never seen the third.
SPEAKER_00:I think I did see the third once when I was like younger, but never.
SPEAKER_05:The third one is the one that has Ryan Reynolds. Ryan Reynolds in it.
SPEAKER_00:Ruins everything.
SPEAKER_05:That's why that's why, but that's why he put Blade in the Deadpool movie. Deadpool three. Or Deadpool and Wolverine.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, which is crazy because Deadpool and Wolverine is not going to be Deadpool 3 because they're making a Deadpool 3. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:I think that um I saw was uh that Wesley Snipes playing Blade. I think because he showed up in that movie, he was like the longest, he's been playing the Marvel character, you know, the longest or something like that, like the for a number of years, or you know, I didn't really verify that. Mm-hmm. Like, yeah, Blade has been out for a while, and so I think he's like the longest playing Marvel, you know, character, technically, you know, to date.
SPEAKER_05:Which I I think he does already. And I mean, I w I've watched the Blade movies, and I think he did a pretty good job. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:Blade's my my favorite uh character.
SPEAKER_02:Some fellas just try to always skate uphill.
SPEAKER_00:Uh huh. He has some crazy lines, but it's just hilarious. It's a funny movie. That movie was edgy and funny.
SPEAKER_05:The uh yeah, I think the funniest thing though that I've seen out of everything with Wesley's snipes or or specifically the Blade character was a reel, an Instagram reel, and it was a like around Halloween, someone dressed up as a vampire, and he's doing the whoa, woo, and he just stops cold stone, just freezes, and then pans the camera, and it's someone dressed as Blade. The blade music comes on. That's funny. Classic asic blade. Uh John, I want to talk about one of your movies. You want to talk about me? You want to talk about my? You want to talk about number one on my me? What I want, what I know, what I love, what a thack, I want to see. No, thank you.
SPEAKER_04:I'll talk about you, you, you, you, you, you, usually.
SPEAKER_00:Is it Eddington? Because that movie is crazy.
SPEAKER_02:Uh, no. I I didn't see Eddington. You watched that, right?
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. I talked about you watching it in the back. Oh, you did another one to jump.
unknown:Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:I want to talk about Clica, the one movie that like you made one of the movies you didn't make any mone money on at all. Yeah. So what zero dollars. Me and Ashley went and saw a movie recently. What was that? We what's the last one? Oh, Iron Long. We went and saw Iron Long, and in front of Iron Long, they played a movie trailer for Clica this year.
SPEAKER_05:So does that mean that they delayed the release, and that's why I made zero dollars on it? Yeah, I think that's probably what happened to Americana too.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, because Sydney Sweeney is in that. And so I figure maybe. In Clickka? Yeah. No, in Americana.
SPEAKER_02:Oh, gotcha.
SPEAKER_00:I was like, I'm pretty sure she would have made at least some money in a movie.
SPEAKER_02:So yeah, they just delayed the release of this movie. And it, I promise you, uh no s like no hints or anything for this year uh for the uh movie draft, but that movie looks really dumb. Clicka. Hey, you're dumb. All right, no, you buy this movie and you make another zero dollars off of it.
SPEAKER_05:You know what? No, go ahead, go see your movie, see what happens. Like, I don't know, I don't know.
SPEAKER_02:But does anybody have anything else to say before we move on to the second half of this episode?
SPEAKER_05:I suppose not, old boy.
SPEAKER_02:All right, so we've talked about the results of last year, and I wanted to talk about in the second half of this episode. Snow cones. Uh no, the movie's coming out this year. Uh I know that we're in February of this year, but looking at the list of movies that came out in uh January, there's really not much to talk about, right? Greenland 2. If anybody's seen Greenland 1, and the movie about the world ending with comets like and meteorites coming through. I thought you were getting political there for a second. No, it was like it was a Gerard Butler where the move the world is ending, and the existence of the second movie ruins the plot of the first one by oh, they all lived because there's a second one type thing.
SPEAKER_05:Kind of like if they did a day after tomorrow two, where it's like, hey, I know we survived the freeze, but it's gonna freeze again.
SPEAKER_02:Right? It's literally that. No joke. Primate with pri yeah, primate which I really don't want to see this movie.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, I've seen too many documentaries about what you know chimpanzees have really done to people, like mutilating people in very gruesome ways. Um that's just too realistic for me.
SPEAKER_02:And yeah, have you seen that? The trailer for it?
SPEAKER_05:That hits too close to home. Um I have had a chimpanzee before. No, I I have not.
SPEAKER_02:It's literally, it's like a they have a pet monkey. Like this family has a pet monkey, it gets bit by something in the trailer, it gets bit by something, goes crazy, and just starts killing everybody in the house.
SPEAKER_05:So basically, dawn of Planet of the Apes. With James Franco.
SPEAKER_02:No, but like he's just it looks so stupid. The movie really looks really dumb.
SPEAKER_00:It's silly because if I had a chimpanzee, which I would never do or have that, but I would definitely have a gun in the house because like Say now. Say now. I have no doubt.
SPEAKER_02:I already have enough of a wild animal in a puppy.
SPEAKER_00:Pretty much if you you know, you can have them when they were babies, but the moment they hit adulthood and they become unpredictable like any other wild animal, you can't you can't domesticate them, so and they will mutilate you.
SPEAKER_02:Well, what's sad about this movie to me is that like they make it look like or they frame it in the trailer that the monkey you really didn't have a choice. He like he got infected rabies or something like that. Rabbi's or something like that. So he's now going around killing the ones that he cares about because he's now infected. It's not like that they're doing something wrong to him and he's getting revenge or whatever. It's the monkey gets bit by like a rat or something in his cage and now is going around killing the people he loves out of rage. I didn't want to kill him, Governor Honest.
SPEAKER_00:That's why I don't want to see the movie because I'm like, well, even best case scenario that you know the monkey is like, I don't know, put down, but it and they try like he after he kills Hope Tree, but they try to like, you know, cure him and then keep him.
SPEAKER_02:Like no, it's just about you know like there's no way this is gonna be a movie that ends in a good way. Yeah, he's even like Oh, the monkey killed people, but he didn't mean it. Yeah, we'll keep him around. Or he's gonna kill everybody and then go out and just be in the world killing more people, which is not gonna be a good ending. There's just it's not a win, is there's no winning in this movie to me. You know how they'd make it a good movie? Not make it?
SPEAKER_05:Well, yeah, but no, they they decide to do like a WWD, WWE, WWWD, yeah, no, WWE SmackDown. And they're like, listen, chimpanzee, if you can beat the contender, you get to go free. And there's like this, like this false sense of security. It's like, I'm a chimpanzee, I can beat any human. And then Harambe comes out and it's on this The Ghost of Harambe.
SPEAKER_02:They're like, you gotta defeat the ghost of Huromba. Are we gonna be making like the monkey cinematic universe of movies? Like the Ghost of Harambe, Primate, Mighty Joe Young, King Kong, Planet of the Apes, yeah. Caesar, yeah. Caesar from Planet of the Apes, dude. Yes, right. We got enough. Monkey Cinematic Universe. Yeah. I think King Kong would beat them all. I'm just yeah, unless they all end up becoming the same size. It depends on which King Kong it is.
SPEAKER_05:That's what we should do. We should do mediocre Jack Black King Kong versus Kong X Kong.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah. Yeah. So yeah, we stood, we we we held on too long on this primate.
SPEAKER_06:Way too long.
SPEAKER_02:Listen, for a movie that none all of us agreed not to see, we're talking about too much. I just want to quickly talk about to me some what probably could have been good movies in January, and then we can move on to what we're looking forward to.
SPEAKER_07:Okay.
SPEAKER_02:But uh 28 years later, the Bone Temple. We talked about that already. Oh.
SPEAKER_05:No, well I thought you were like, I'm moving forward.
SPEAKER_02:The movie was made well, but it's just too graphic that it you it makes you too uncomfortable watching it.
SPEAKER_05:Do you know what I mean? You know that every time that you say something along those lines that people get frustrated with you or listeners, they're like, when you're like, this isn't good, it has good aspects to it. I walked out of it. No, I know, but I'm like, you're just like, I like the way that they did this, but this overall was oh, Jarrett can't have an opinion.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, yeah. Everyone's like, just say it's awful and move on. No, because like I I want to find good in things, you know.
SPEAKER_04:You want to find good in a movie called Bone Temple?
SPEAKER_02:Well, I don't know, because I can't have full opinion on it because I didn't finish it.
SPEAKER_00:Yes, type of movie I like I think you can should walk stream at home actually, and so you can skip through stuff because I would have to skip through a lot of that movie just to figure out how it ended.
SPEAKER_02:Again, it's just there's uh select moments of people suffering that is makes it unwatchable, but other parts of it that make it interesting.
SPEAKER_05:But hey, I was just making a comment.
SPEAKER_02:You can uh Mercy, which we ended up not going to see because we had an ice storm. That was that Chris Pratt movie where he invented like this trial system, like putting criminals on trial. And then he gets put on trial. Then he gets put on trial. Uh Return to Silent Hill was one of the last things we saw, which it's a video game movie, and it was good and it was bad at the same time.
SPEAKER_05:It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.
SPEAKER_00:Like everybody in the, you know, obviously the gaming community or the streaming community hated that movie because you know.
SPEAKER_02:It did it wasn't faithful to the game it was based off of. I enjoyed it, but it was really low budget, so a lot of the visuals were really bad. Like the CG was really bad, but oh well. You know what I mean? Some stuff you can look over. I enjoyed watching it. And uh the last thing we saw was Iron Lung, which there's a lot of controversy around that movie right now.
SPEAKER_07:What is that?
SPEAKER_02:Uh well it's uh a YouTuber, a a famous uh guy who does plays video games on YouTube for a living, uh um wrote, directed, produced, and acted in this movie. It's practically just him. There's a few other people who show up in it.
SPEAKER_00:Markiplier.
SPEAKER_02:Markiplier, if you've ever heard of him. What you heard of? Mm-hmm. No. But is that Mr. Beast? No. Oh no, it's Markiplier. But he made this movie, and it was number one at the box office beat beating out everything, and he didn't go the route of Hollywood when making it. So Hollywood is supposedly going after him because they don't like that they bypassed the Hollywood rules and it's doing well. The Hollywood machine and it's doing really well financially.
SPEAKER_00:Like it beat Melania, the documentary, you know, Melania Trump, and then it also beat out uh Send Help, I think, in the first week, which is the Sam Raimi movie. I wish I do I still want to see that one, Sin Help.
SPEAKER_02:They went in and just completely uh okay, yeah. Uh he did another layer.
SPEAKER_00:Um yeah, yeah, Mark Blair has thir 38.2 million subscribers on YouTube alone, and he spent I think three million dollars investing in self self-funding the movie, which it's pretty impressive. And he earned at least at eight twenty-one million, a little over twenty-one million dollars.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:Wow. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:It's and this is a good movie. It was a very good movie. And the whole thing just takes place inside like one room, essentially.
SPEAKER_07:Yeah.
SPEAKER_05:What is it? What there was a movie that was shot like that. It was like the entire movie was done in two shots. Or you mean two places? No, no, no, no. Like they rolled the camera and stopped it once and then rolled again.
SPEAKER_02:I I I'm pretty sure. There's a lot of single shot movies out there that are like that. I know Birdman with Michael Keaton is like that, where it's one continuous shot. Uh 1942, right? The war movie was also supposed to be one continuous shot. Was it though? No, there's a lot of trickery they do to make it look like it when it's really not. Trickery! But but yeah, that's January uh Send Help, which we're planning on going and seeing, where it's like a hey, you did it, you finit you finished the puzzle.
SPEAKER_05:I completed the puzzle. Congratulations.
SPEAKER_02:And why you gotta be that way? Or it took you about 30 minutes total. But send help is like a boss and an employee getting stranded on an island, or like a woman getting stranded on an island with her crappy boss, and now they have to survive and work together.
SPEAKER_05:Why does someone's excrement need management?
SPEAKER_02:I don't know why you're gonna like latch on to me saying crappy.
SPEAKER_05:I'm just messing with you, but the uh the silent the long drawn-out silence was great.
SPEAKER_02:I'm gonna cut that out too, so you're just gonna look at it.
SPEAKER_06:Dang silly.
SPEAKER_02:All right. But yeah, we're gonna go see that uh this weekend, I believe, correct? Ma'am? I don't think we booked it yet, but we can go try to go see that movie this weekend. Cool. So with that being said, we have an entire year of movies ahead of us. Yes. What? I'll start with Ashley. What movie are you looking forward to the most this year?
SPEAKER_00:So I put together a list and um let me think about it. I think probably Dune part three. Oh, and okay, so this is uh it's Dune part three in theaters, but then I was on this list and included like some stream movies too, um, which you know, uh no, that's not the goal based.
SPEAKER_02:No, it comes out this year, so yeah.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, but uh uh Peaky Blinders, the the Immortal Man, is coming out on Netflix, and there was a whole series called Peaky Blinders. It's it starred um Killian Murphy. Anyways, I thought it was old Tom Hardy in that too. Yeah, he was in that. So yeah, I actually thought I was like, oh on Netflix, that's pretty cool. But I guess overall, Dune Part Three, that's probably the one I'm looking forward to the most.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah. Oh no, we went and saw um I forgot about this, uh Marty Supreme.
SPEAKER_00:Right. Yeah, with Timothy Chalamagne.
SPEAKER_02:And I was talking to Ashley about this, John. Timothy Timothy Chalamane might be my favorite new actor.
SPEAKER_00:Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_02:Because like anything he's in is not bad.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:He is a very good actor.
SPEAKER_00:He is. He's good. He's pretty good.
SPEAKER_05:I remember you telling me about the most recent one you went and saw him in, and you were like, the movie's kind of weird, but no, the movie is crazy.
SPEAKER_00:It is actually. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:It's a good movie. It's just the things that happen in it are insane. I think I explained the entire plot to John because I'm like, you wouldn't want to see this movie. But it's crazy, just like how so much happens to this guy just because he's a scumbag. Yeah. And Timothy Chalmain plays this character so well. What about you, John? What movie are you looking forward to? The guy who won't be watching any movies this year.
SPEAKER_05:Where do I where do I even begin? You know? The Odyssey? Way to take mine would be cool to see. Mm-hmm. Just because we were so wrapped up in the world.
SPEAKER_02:And I think I went into detail about that movie in one episode. In the past, but it is Christopher Nolan's next movie. Yeah. And anytime Christopher Nolan comes out with a movie, it is like a huge, huge deal. Yeah. And he and he typically makes like these big epic movies. Sure. And he'll write, you know, what was the last one? He came out with Oppenheimer. What's the last movie he came out with? Oppenheimer. Yeah. And, you know, not really stories that are epic stories. Yeah. But he makes them epic with the way he makes his movies. And he's making Homer's the Odyssey. Yes. An already epic story. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. With a guy who makes epic movies out of things that are not quite epic. I'm excited.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah. It should be good. My wife and I, we both uh read The Odyssey last year. She read she read The Iliad and The Odyssey. Oh I re I read The Odyssey. I didn't know you could read. Yeah, surprisingly. And then uh there's a musical all out there called Epic the Musical. It's a big internet musical. Yeah. Uh all produced online. But uh that's themed off of the story of the Odyssey. So the boys and I and my wife, we listen to it. Is this IMAX?
unknown:I don't know.
SPEAKER_00:Actually, I was thinking that just when I sent it sent that to you. You might want to look and see. I'm not sure.
SPEAKER_05:Sorry, we're already buying tickets for CL. But yeah, so that would be cool.
SPEAKER_02:And then can you change it to Sunday? I've got plans Saturday. I gotta talk to you about later.
SPEAKER_05:Whoa. Uh and then I guess the other two would just be the stereotypical that everyone's excited for. Mario.
SPEAKER_07:Yeah.
SPEAKER_05:Uh Super Mario, sorry, Galaxy.
SPEAKER_02:Super Mario Galaxy.
SPEAKER_05:And then starring Star Lord. And then Avengers in December. Yeah. That's uh you're pretty much everyone is expecting it to be good because Robert Downey Jr. is in it again. Correct.
SPEAKER_00:Uh yeah. I don't know. I'm not I have I have Avengers Doomsday on my list, but I'm not like like I'm cautiously optimistic. But I'm not like when they start doing the whole thing, so Captain America's coming back, and so I was like, oh this is lame. I mean, Thor is back. It's like I don't even know. Like the last year and a half, they haven't even been in any movie, so I'm trying to figure out how they're gonna tie it back and uh they probably remade the movie and uh I hope it's not edited to death, but we'll see.
SPEAKER_02:We'll see. Yeah, I don't know. I mean, I'm not inter I mean, I'm not invested so much that if it's bad, it'll ruin my life. Yeah. But I am How could you be to a m what movie would have Well back in the day, like when you would have to watch all these Marvel movies and it was such a big deal every time one come out, and like to the point that if one was bad it ruined the whole story. I'm they did that now. And so it's like I experience a world where Marvel movies are bad and it's like, oh, I don't care now. So if this is bad, then it's not gonna ruin anything, like like going and seeing Black Widow and hoping and realizing these movies are bad.
SPEAKER_00:Well, I thought you're gonna do the two o'clock one on Sunday.
SPEAKER_02:Oh, I didn't see a two o'clock. You were making plans on the podcast.
SPEAKER_05:I thought that facial expression was disagreeing about Black Widow. She's like, I love that movie.
SPEAKER_02:That movie. She's never even seen it. It's not it's not good. I enjoy Russian espionage. How dare you, sir? Oh, this movie is bad. Okay, the next one will be good. Oh, that one's bad. Oh, and then that one's bad. And then that one's bad. And that's right, I'm an adult and I have other problems. These movies don't control my life. Man, all these movies are just not great.
SPEAKER_05:Also, how am I gonna pay for rent?
SPEAKER_02:But I am excited for Doomsday. I'm really, really hopeful that it ends up being good.
SPEAKER_05:I'm excited for you that you're excited for Doomsday.
SPEAKER_02:You'll be back. We'll we can go see it, right? You'll be around in December, right? TBD. TBD. No, yeah, I will okay. Uh TBD, I'll be here, but I don't know if I'll go see Doomsday or not. I don't know. I don't want to make any commitments right now. Uh one that I don't haven't seen uh too show up too much, but uh the new Spider-Man comes out this year, too. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_05:Well, I think they've been working really hard to make sure that Tom Holland doesn't spill the beans as he historically does.
SPEAKER_02:So we have trailers for the move for Doomsday at the end of the year, but Spider-Man comes out in July, and we haven't had a single trailer for Spider-Man.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, what's up with that?
SPEAKER_02:I don't know. Like, does people even know Spider-Man's coming out, you know? So we'll see. I bet you we'll see it for the Super Bowl. We'll probably start getting trailers around Super Bowl.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah. Which is Sunday. Do you guys want to close out while this this will come out after the Super Bowl, but who do you think is gonna take it?
SPEAKER_02:I don't even know who's playing. I don't even know. Seahawks or the Patriots? Uh just because I don't care about the Patriots winning for the umpteenth time, I'll I'll go for the Seahawks.
SPEAKER_05:Alright, Ashley, are you gonna stay true to your roots? Are you gonna go Patriots?
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, I'm gonna go with the Patriots.
SPEAKER_05:Classic Yankee style.
unknown:Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:Classic Yankee style. Wow.
SPEAKER_00:I honestly don't know anybody.
SPEAKER_02:If it ain't north and bitter, I don't want anything to do with it. Why did you say that? Making fun of my northern wife in a very deep southern accent.
SPEAKER_05:I don't know. I guess I can only be aggressive and insulting in a southern in your uh common tongue? In my common tongue.
SPEAKER_02:I don't know how to use derogatory terms in the normal speak. In human tone, human voice. Human voice, mean over speak, human voice. Another thing, scream seven. How many times? Seven times? You want me to scream seven times? Yes, please.
SPEAKER_01:Uh uh.
SPEAKER_02:Uh uh uh uh uh uh but you're excited for that, right? Scream seven?
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, I had um yep, Scream Seven is coming out. This is kind of a silly one, and this also is probably gonna go to Netflix or something, but um Tyler Perry's Joe's College Road Trip is coming out.
SPEAKER_02:Joe's College Road Trip.
SPEAKER_00:And out of all the corny Tyler Perry characters, uh Joe is one of the funny ones. So I might actually watch that on streaming if it comes out, or it might be in theaters. I didn't check, but it just made me laugh when I saw it. I was like, another Tyler Perry movie. And because um for some reason on YouTube I started watching like the old uh Tyler Perry movies, like I have the autoplay feature. I don't know why I started playing movies, but it played like Tyler Perry's um Diary of a Mad Black Woman. So I started watching other Tyler Perry movies, and basically a while ago, he was really good at uh at making movies, so maybe this will be a comeback.
SPEAKER_02:But um's the last time he made a good movie though.
SPEAKER_00:Who knows? Probably like those like like back in the day, like Diary of a Mad Black Woman, um, which ones I was watching? Uh The Family That Prays, but it's P-R-E-Y. And then uh the Why Did I Get Married? one and two's okay, you know. So they're all hey, they're free right now on YouTube. Um so I think YouTube maybe it's prime, but I mean YouTube, uh premium, whatever. But anyway, so he didn't make some pretty good compelling stories back in the day. So now that I'm watching this one for jokes, though, probably.
SPEAKER_05:And when we say back in the day, we mean when?
SPEAKER_00:I gotta look at it.
SPEAKER_05:I gotta Were You Born Yet, Ashley, back in the day.
SPEAKER_00:Uh yes, I was.
SPEAKER_02:So probably 90s.
SPEAKER_05:Have you seen the trend where it's like you ask someone what year they were born, and if it's anything that starts with 19, they go right to Jurassic Park?
SPEAKER_00:Yes, I have seen it.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, that's I'm like, how dare you? I'm young too.
SPEAKER_00:Uh but uh yeah, well, Diary of a Mad Black Woman came out in 2005. So, yeah, when I was a teenager.
SPEAKER_05:Um wait, you were a teenager in 2005?
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, we literally uh probably just uh right there.
SPEAKER_02:But um Wow. Are you excited, John, for The Bride coming out March 6th? Starring Christian Bell. He's a bride? No, he's in it. Oh. Ironically as Frankenstein.
SPEAKER_05:That is literally halfway between the two weddings that I'm involved in. There's a wedding that I'm officiating on March 1st. And then you said March 6th, right? Yeah. Yeah. March 1st, I'm officiating, and then I'm co-DJing with you on the 14th. Yeah. So literally halfway in between. Crazy. Crazy. You're c you're a crazy lady.
SPEAKER_00:I put the bride on my list because I like that um what's his name that played Batman? Um Christian Bell. Christian Bell is in it. Sorry, sorry, sorry. Christian Bell. But I don't like I don't know if I'll think it's gonna be a good movie. I think I probably won't like it, but I don't know.
SPEAKER_02:I think it'll be it's gonna be interesting and it's a I didn't like the trailer, the first trailer that played like a million times in front of movies. Then they just had a new trailer come out and it made the movie look better.
SPEAKER_00:It did, yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05:And it's called The Bride.
SPEAKER_02:The Bride. Excellent. It's just it's about this this bride of Frankenstein is the story.
SPEAKER_00:Except for she doesn't like the Frankenstein part. She just says, I'm the bride. Um the bride, don't Frankenstein.
SPEAKER_05:Uh feminism. Is that Lady Gaga?
SPEAKER_02:It looks like Lady Gaga. It's not, I don't think.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, I forget who it was.
SPEAKER_05:Um she just leaned really hard into Jesse Buckley. Is that what it was? Anyways, Lady Gaga leaned hard into monsters.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. All my little monsters. Yeah, I think at the she recently was the Grammy's like that.
SPEAKER_02:She was wearing like all black and yeah, people were saying she was like performing a satanic ritual on the stage at the Grammys. It was really weird. Weird. I remember one year she wore a steak dress to look. That's right. Then cried for animal against animal cruelty after wearing a steak dress. That makes sense. She is she is something else. Are you excited for the new mummy movie, John?
SPEAKER_05:No.
SPEAKER_02:You want to explain that real quick?
SPEAKER_05:There's a movie coming out this year called The Mummy, but it has nothing to do with Brendan Frazier or Jonathan, none of them. Or Emily Wise, none of them. No, it's a horror movie. It's a horror movie, and it's just called The Mummy, and it's making a lot of people mad because they can't. It's making your family mad. It looks like a good movie. I guarantee you there's a lot of more people than just me that are mad. Well, it's called like because we've been talking about all of 2025 was everyone wants a mummy movie. Everyone's speculating on the fact that they were in talks to make a mummy movie. Like Brendan Fraser and Jonathan and Emily, they were all coming to the table being like, Yeah, we would do a fourth one. And then there's a coming to theater's the mummy, and everyone's like, Oh, let me see. They click on the the trailer for it, and they're like, no, that's not Brendan Fraser. No, that's not.
SPEAKER_02:No, where the uh the Brendan Fraser was an action movie. This is a straight up horror movie. Correct. But it's called, I don't remember the director's name, but it's like so-and-so's the mummy. So it's not even like they're not marketing it as Brendan Fraser being in it. It's like, no, this is them using Universal using the mummy property to make a mummy horror movie.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, because they just did the in the new park, they just did a whole section that was the what's it called? The monsters.
SPEAKER_02:The mummy is not in it. Dark universe, the the mummy is not in it. But that what's that portion of the park? Is it called Dark Universe? Dark Universe, yeah. Okay, okay. Because it's all universal monsters, dark universe. Yeah. There is one mummy reference on one of the rides. You see the mummy for like half a second.
SPEAKER_05:Okay, but that's what I'm saying is they're they're coming out with a horror mummy movie. It does fit into the dark universe.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah. Because it's it is that they're push them.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:Uh let me run through these quick because I think we're getting short on time. Uh just real quick. Anybody have anything else to say about movies? Anything else?
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, actually, come out with a real mummy movie with Brendan Fraser and That's right.
SPEAKER_02:On our small man podcast, we have to. Just do it. Just do it.
SPEAKER_00:I have uh two things. Uh one was around like the two horror movies that actually probably be scary this year. Was it Hokum? I don't know if you remember. That was one of those, I don't even know what it's about.
SPEAKER_02:Like Was it that trailer that played, and I'm just like, I leaned right over you like absolutely not.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, it's like I think it's some type of like, you know, demon possession thing, but it looked absolutely terrifying. And then Terrifier 4 is coming out, it's gonna be crazy.
SPEAKER_02:Oh, and then that movie that has that unnecessary jump scare in the trailer, Passenger.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:That movie was that trailer is so weird.
SPEAKER_00:It's probably the scariest part of the movie, but probably, but that trailer was scary. Yeah, it was, yeah. But and another thing was like uh the oh I can only imagine two is coming out. I didn't see I can only imagine one, but actually.
SPEAKER_02:No, but we we have a connection to that movie in a weird way, right, John? Oh really? Yeah.
SPEAKER_05:I don't want to because I'm surrounded by your glory.
SPEAKER_02:Well, wasn't one of our co-workers' nephew the kid in that movie? Uh I don't want to name out names, but one of our co-workers when we worked at Freedom, his nephew is the kid in the first movie. Uh, I can only imagine. Oh. I don't remember. I'll I'll call I'll I'll tell you the name after this. Okay. Alright, alright, alright. So we have a odd we have an odd connection to that movie where we knew somebody whose nephew was the main character in that movie.
SPEAKER_04:I'm looking up the movie right now.
SPEAKER_02:Uh but only imagine. So running through, you know, the rest of the movies throughout the year, uh, Ready or Not To, Here I Come, the Super Mario Galaxy movie, we talked about that. A Michael Jackson biopic called Mike Michael.
SPEAKER_00:I like that his, I think his his nephew, Jafar. Yeah, somebody related to him is playing Michael. Looks just like him. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05:How much longer are we gonna keep Michael Jackson alive? As long as he's making money.
SPEAKER_00:They're making a new Elvis Presley movie, too. I thought the same exact thing. I'm like, how many biopics do we need?
SPEAKER_05:Elvis Presley did enough movies when he was alive. Just go re-watch them. You don't need to make a new.
SPEAKER_02:Probably has enough that we can make a whole new Elvis movie based off of archive footage.
SPEAKER_05:There's literally an entire bit in Las Vegas of Elvis impersonation. So just go there if you need someone to impersonate Elvis Presley.
SPEAKER_02:Mortal Kombat 2, one of my top movies I'm looking forward to.
SPEAKER_00:Mortal Kombat.
SPEAKER_02:That was supposed to come out last year and it got pushed. I don't know why, but hey.
SPEAKER_00:Was that the one they talked about, the game show? Game awards.
SPEAKER_02:No, you're thinking of Street Fighter.
SPEAKER_00:Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_02:Which is coming out this year as well. Jason Mamoa playing Blanca is hilarious. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_05:Uh you guys will um this movie will already be in theaters when this episode comes out, but goat? No, no. No. No. You don't want to watch goat?
SPEAKER_02:No.
SPEAKER_00:I don't remember seeing that.
SPEAKER_02:It's that kid's animated movie about a a goat playing basketball. Greatest of the film. It's it's uh Stephen Curry playing.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah. Voicing it.
SPEAKER_02:What?
SPEAKER_00:I'll stick to Space Jam as a basketball movies.
SPEAKER_02:If it was Bugs Bunny playing basketball again, I'd watch it.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah. Uh The Mandalorian movie's coming out. Won't even give it a chance. I won't give the goat a chance. I won't. Are you excited for the Mandalorian movie? Didn't even know that was coming out. The Mandalorian Grogu is what it's called. It's like a sequel, like it continues the story, but in movie form. So Gorney Weaver's in it. Whoa. Um what's that movie? On my list is tit it's labeled as Untitled Steven Spielberg film, but it's called Something Day.
SPEAKER_00:Dis and You know the one with the Oh, yeah, it's Disclosure Day.
SPEAKER_02:Disclosure Day. On my list, it's it's untitled. Oh. But it's like an alien movie. He's making another alien movie. The Hunger Games? Yeah, that's end of the year, right? Yeah. Yeah. I was gonna say it's just another the same plot again.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:Uh Masters of the Universe, the He-Man movie actually looks pretty good. Yeah? Yeah. Toy Story 5, Supergirl, Jumanji 3, Minions 3, Godzilla Minus Zero. Oh, that I'm excited for that. Minus one was so good.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:Uh Moana live action, Spider-Man. We talked about that.
SPEAKER_00:About how to make a killing. That I mean I think that's coming out this month or it's out already. But that movie with uh what's his name? Uh the G starts with the G or something like that. He was in um Mission Impossible, not Mission Impossible, sorry, uh what's the one with Tom Cruise? Top Gun, the the last Top Gun Maverick. Uh Mouse Teller? Not him, the other guy.
SPEAKER_02:Uh oh, the uh the guy from uh The Running Man.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, I forget anything. I'd look at it, but yeah, he's playing the main character there.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, the guy with the perpetual smirk.
SPEAKER_00:Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_02:What is that guy's name? Smirky? Yeah, uh Glenn Powell.
SPEAKER_00:There you go. Yeah, no, it's the G. Yeah. He's in it. Um how to make killing. That's it seems interesting. I don't know.
SPEAKER_02:Oh, yeah, where he has to kill all of his family members to get the inheritance. Right. That does actually look interesting.
unknown:Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:Uh in September, we're getting a clayface movie. Like the DC supervillain. Wow.
SPEAKER_07:I didn't know that.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, it's supposed to be a horror movie they're making. That that would be interesting to see. Not like a a mystery film, you know. It'd be good. It could be good. The reboot of Resident Evil is coming out this year.
SPEAKER_00:I don't know.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, the you can't beat the classics. The classics were already bad, but they were fun to watch. You can't beat the classics. They were awful.
SPEAKER_00:I didn't think they were awful as a kid, but then you you know, it's like you go back.
SPEAKER_02:Well, we watched we started watching Wonderworld.
unknown:Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:Like it just happened to be on TV, and it was like, this is I remember this being way better. It's fun to watch, but I remember this being so much better.
SPEAKER_05:My brother said that he finally watched The Lord of the Rings, the extended edition. Uh-huh. And, you know, he's like in his 30s. This is his first time watching them. And he was like, Yeah, the CGI just didn't hold up.
SPEAKER_02:You said your brother, I thought that was Ethan.
SPEAKER_05:No, Ethan is watching it for the first time with us, but he's only watched The Fellowship. That's right. My brother's watched all three. And maybe he did watch it in high school, but you know, when we came out, I was in middle school. Yeah. We were in middle school when it all when all three of the movies came out. And it was like, oh yeah. And and to me it's held up.
SPEAKER_02:I love it. It's a comfort watch. I'll be honest. The only one I don't think the CG is all that great is with the the first one. Like you could see the the age on it, but the other two, like the two towers and Return of the King, I think look great even now.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah. I I think I think because we have uh they've updated like I don't know how else to say this, crowds. Like CGI crowds.
SPEAKER_07:Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, like any kind of big army scenes where it's the it's a like a wide shot of a ton of guys, that doesn't necessarily hold up. But outside of that, I don't I don't think it's that bad.
SPEAKER_02:No, and you can look past it very easily in a movie like Lord of the Rings where there's so much especially if you played the PlayStation 2 Lord of the Rings game.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah. All right, moving on.
SPEAKER_02:Uh closing out, I thought this movie came out already, but in November, the Cat in the Hat movie with Bill Hader playing the Cat in the Hat?
SPEAKER_00:Yes, on that and list you. Oh no. Oh no.
SPEAKER_02:Oh, I'm bummed.
SPEAKER_00:Another one that was like, man, how many iterations do we need of the cat in the hat?
SPEAKER_02:You know what's crazy? We don't have that many, but it feels like so much. I mean like the last Cat in the Hat movie to come out was Mike Myers' Cat in the Hat movie. Which was forever ago.
SPEAKER_05:Which just feels like a response to the the Grinch. Oh, that's right. That's what it does. It feels like it's just a like, you know what, the Grinch did really good. Let's see if we can keep this going. Keep this going.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah. But yeah, like I saw the trailer for that like uh what felt like a year ago, and I thought that movie came and gone, but no, it's gonna come out at the end of this year. Yeah. And it like, yeah, it's just another minions-esque movie that, yeah, I'm sure somebody will like this. It's not bad or anything, it's just I don't feel any urge to go see the cat in the hat. Like I didn't go see the Grinch with Benedict Cumberbatch in it, you know?
SPEAKER_05:So if you had to give it a one out of ten rating, what would you give it?
SPEAKER_02:Like of excitement or what?
SPEAKER_05:Sure. Like a three. Oh.
SPEAKER_02:What do you what do you think, Ashley? You don't probably don't even remember seeing it.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, I do remember seeing it, but negative five.
SPEAKER_02:I want them to pay me for seeing this trailer.
SPEAKER_05:I think I'd give it a six or a seven. Yeah?
unknown:Yeah.
SPEAKER_05:Maybe a six six seven? We don't do this.
SPEAKER_02:Oh, yeah, sorry, yeah, sorry. We don't do that. I I I've I have purged the six seven nonsense out of my mind so much that I forgot that was a thing. I I rebuke the devil.
SPEAKER_05:Good. I'm not gonna respond to that.
SPEAKER_02:And then at the end of the year, Avengers Doomsday, which we talked about, so uh Street Fighter uh Uh Jason Mamoa. They're like that. We were watching the Game Awards back in December when they announced the movie. Yeah. And they brought on stage all the actors playing all the characters, and it was just like big name, big name, big name, big name. Just down the line. It was crazy.
SPEAKER_05:This year is Jason Momoa's season of the bad guy because he's the villain in the supergirl movie coming out. Yeah, he's Lobo. Yeah, he's Lobo. Exciting stuff. Crazy. Anyways. Yeah, that's looking forward to movies.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah.
SPEAKER_05:Hey, Ashley, congratulations on coming out on top. That's right.
SPEAKER_00:Thank you.
SPEAKER_05:I know you put a lot of effort into it.
SPEAKER_02:And then when we do it.
SPEAKER_00:We didn't do any research at all, then we're just like, I'm winging it.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, we just went out there last year and just started bidding on stuff that sounded good and you got lucky. Like I said, it's a testimony to just do what you love and the money will come.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:You know? So I think that um I'm gonna start looking into when they're gonna release this year's like lineup so we can do that again. I'd like to do that again. And hopefully I'll win this time. I'll let's all let's do our research this time, you know? Oh, yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_05:Because I got nothing too big going on coming up here pretty soon.
SPEAKER_02:You'll be all right. Yeah. It's just all you gotta do is sitting at my table for a couple hours and talk. You'll be all right. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_06:Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:Alrighty. Well, thanks for listening, you guys. Yeah, thank you, Ashley, for coming back on. Thank you for coming so far to record this episode.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, thanks for traveling across town and fighting traffic and punching hobos, short, short school buses, and all this stuff.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, she she cut off three stopped school buses to get here.
SPEAKER_05:Whoa, that's three separate tickets.
SPEAKER_07:Yeah.
SPEAKER_05:That's a felony at that point. And if it's a short school bus, they take one of your golden stars.
SPEAKER_00:Oh man.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah. How many of you have it have you built up?
SPEAKER_00:Zero.
SPEAKER_02:All right. Roll that dice to find out how many gold stars you got.
SPEAKER_00:Dice rolled.
SPEAKER_02:Ooh, zero. Oh, I didn't even know what dice could be. Zero.
SPEAKER_00:Oh.
SPEAKER_02:Alright, one more time, roll that for me. What number is that?
SPEAKER_00:Seven.
SPEAKER_02:Seven. Alright, you got an outro as a little baby. You gotta outro as a little outro the episode.
SPEAKER_05:We were talking to her like as a husband and wife. You're like, all right, outro little baby.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, outro the episode as a little baby.
SPEAKER_00:I don't know. I can't. Wher, weh. Alright, I've I mean babies can't talk, so there you go.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, there you go. Pauses for dramatic effect. Where? Christ is Lord. And the kingdom is now. We are the saints that serve. Wh. Wh.
SPEAKER_04:Wh you play podcast with me. I only go play podcast.
SPEAKER_02:Welcome to Z the episode 71 of the things yet sort of podcast. Okay, I'm gonna start over. I was trying to do German to be funny, and you uh I did that because you didn't get the joke. Because it wasn't German.
SPEAKER_05:I don't know what you were doing.
SPEAKER_03:Welcome to Z Yeah, but what you were doing was like baby, like Yeah, it was yeah, it was I wanna play podcast. I wanna play podcast. Will you play will you play podcast with me?
SPEAKER_04:That's what it sounded like.
