Our conversation takes a serious turn as we delve into the pressing issues of media regulation for child safety. From the hidden dangers within YouTube Kids to the predatory risks in games like Roblox and Fortnite, we emphasize the need for vigilant parental oversight. The discussion underscores the importance of resisting these influences and the spiritual battles intensified by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In our final segments, we reflect on the profound impact of screen time on beliefs and behavior, highlighting the imbalance between digital consumption and Bible engagement. We share personal stories and historical insights to stress the significance of aligning our lives with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Additionally, we touch upon the evolution of media ownership, the intriguing world of cryptids like the Dogman, and our favorite high school movies and popcorn flavors. Don't miss our invitation to join our online Bible study, where we seek to balance modern distractions with spiritual commitments.

Saints That Serve Podcast Introduction
Speaker 2Welcome to the Saints that Serve , podcast where , each week , your hosts dive into the crossroads of faith , culture and the unknown .
Speaker 1Christ is Lord and the kingdom is now . We are the Saints that Serve . Welcome everybody to the STS podcast .
Speaker 2The Saints that Serve podcast Is there an S at the end of that ? No , the Saints that Serve podcast . Is there an S at ?
Speaker 1the end of that . No , just Saints that .
Speaker 2Serve , but our email is Saints , that Serves . I have a fun story . Go ahead and introduce who you are and then I'll get into the story . Okay , cool .
Speaker 1So welcome to the Saints that Serve . Podcast . I'm Jairus .
Speaker 2And I'm Johnny .
Speaker 1And this is episode Trace .
Speaker 2And that's three in Spanish , for those who don't speak Spanish .
Speaker 1Sorry , sorry , I've thrown too much knowledge out .
Speaker 2There we're pretty bilingual here .
Speaker 1Yeah .
Speaker 2See , but anyway , it's a fun story . The reason that the email has an S at the end of it is because I wasn't paying attention .
Speaker 1Oh my God , when I did it , it sounds like something that we should just get Also you want to know why ?
Speaker 2Because my , my business had , like , the last word of my business is services . Oh , and so I think when I was setting the email up , I was just in business mode and I was putting the last word . That is in my business .
Speaker 1At this point of recording , we haven't aired any episodes yet . I'm still in the process of editing episodes . We can fix this yeah , we'll go ahead and I'm not going to edit this out because this is too funny , but I guess we can . Yeah , I can , I can change , just just just get the saints that serve instead of serves .
Speaker 2All right , and then everyone has to disregard .
Speaker 1Episode one and two .
Speaker 2One and two when we said go to this email .
Speaker 1We said it too in the trailer as well .
Speaker 2Yeah , oh well , that's okay , We'll fix it .
Speaker 1We'll fix it , just ignore that .
Speaker 2I mean it'll still be the same account , it'll just be the email will be changed , because I think you can do that .
Speaker 1Yeah , that'd be really cool if you could still get both and send them both , so you can send to either serves and serve I think you can .
Speaker 2I'll figure out how to do it , but I think you can I can do that google so I think that's the thing .
Speaker 1So , uh , widening open , you know the secret , pulling back the curtain , that's the phrase . There we go , uh , to my personal life , which is funny enough , my work life , I work in it and we can , we can do that in it for everybody in the business . Add aliases , add aliases . Yeah , okay , so like it's , if it's in there , like there's like our default aliases based off of the first name , last name .
Speaker 2Yeah .
Speaker 1And then you can go in and just add whatever you want . And if I didn't enjoy having a job , I'd , I'd , I'd mess with that system so much adding like the stupidest aliases for me , like pee , pee , poo , poo , booty , boo or something stupid . I'm not gonna dox my company , but yeah at , I don't know I work in it . I don't think I you can dox a company , can you ? At ? Likes to eat doo-doo ? No , it has to be the first name likes to eat doo-doo . At blankety , blank , blank dot com . Yeah , we'll say com , it's not com oh , dot , ninja , dot ninja but it wasn't okay to go off .
Speaker 1That was it , ninja ? Yeah , okay , I couldn't remember if it was .
Speaker 2We're not gonna say the first half of it , but yeah , yeah , the the one that we're familiar with . Whatever it's called , what is that called for ?
Speaker 1the domain yeah , the domain was ninja yeah , or what is that called at the end ? Yeah , no , because the . So when you go like blankety blank at gmail , gmail is the domain dot com . So so what is the dot ? Whatever I ? I sit here bragging about being it and then can't . I sit here bragging about being IT and then can't answer what the . I'm typing it up right now . It's funny , I'm the one in IT again and he's the one with the computer in front of him Any minute now .
Speaker 2Yeah , it's a domain .
Speaker 1So I guess the gmailcom is .
Speaker 2Dom is commercial .
Speaker 1Right . And then net is network , net is network . So I guess the app Of is government .
Speaker 2Good job , commercial right and then net is network , net is network , so I guess the app of his government good job yeah but so the at org is organization the cheap , cheap man's domain .
Speaker 1For some reason I've always associated dot org as being like the cheap version , even though it's really not . But yeah , to sum that up , there is a ninja .
Speaker 2Yeah , but it doesn't come up as a searchable thing , Like there's no domain for there's no explanation for what ninja means as a domain .
Speaker 1Well , I think it's a location , isn't it ? It probably is whatever google just gives me what an actual ninja is go ahead and go ahead and read off that uh domain name a person trained in ancient japanese arts of combat and self-defense and employed especially for espionage and assassinations .
Speaker 2that's the top top deal on Google and that's the domain .
Speaker 1Go to ninjaninja , let's do it , and if there's not ninjas there , we're going to shut down the podcast . We didn't make it to episode 5 .
Speaker 2Alright , and it's loading , because that's how it works . It's nothing , sh . That's how it works .
Speaker 1It's nothing that's shady as all get out Yep . So everybody at home it came up to a . What do you call those to prove you're not a robot ? Yeah , captcha , I couldn't think of it Like a CAPTCHA test .
Speaker 2That was the very first thing . You couldn't even access the website without it , anyways . So they're being sneaky Like a ninja , like a ninja .
Speaker 1Anyways , yeah , this is the Saints that Serve podcast , episode 3 . Episode 3 . That was our intro . A whole four minutes of us talking about nonsense .
Speaker 2I think it's beautiful because remember episode 2 , we spent 20 minutes talking about Star Wars and we didn't mean to Okay , so again pulling back the curtain .
Speaker 1I got that phrasing correct this time . There you go . We want to have it around 40 minutes to an hour long episode , and last week's episode we got on a tangent , so much . It was our longest episode , about an hour and 20 minutes .
Speaker 2Which is okay .
Speaker 1This is fine , like this is our show . We're going to do what we want , yeah , so if you get long episodes , you get long episodes .
Speaker 2We understand that the viewer or listener may have a short attention span , but if the conversation's cooking , just cook dude .
Speaker 1As they say yeah , let him cook .
Speaker 2Yeah , yeah , yeah , that's how it goes . Anyways , our announcements nothing crazy , Just that you know . We are doing an online Bible study and we will be in Genesis chapters 1 , 2 , and 3 , for all of the month of September . So if you'd like to get on board with that online Bible study , just reach out to us at our email . Which is going to be saints that serve at gmailcom , Right ?
Speaker 1now it is . Hopefully you can also send to saints . That serves at gmailcom . Yeah .
Speaker 2That's what it is right now when we're recording this . When it comes out it will be different , but the same .
Speaker 1Both will work , both will work . And if it doesn't ignore this , and just listen to the next , when we're recording this , when it comes out it will be different , but the same Both will work , both will work . And if it doesn't ignore this , and just listen to the next episode , episode four , there you go .
Speaker 2And we'll give you either false or true information . Yeah , but yeah , we're going through that . So we just have a discord group that you can join . You can just send us a request through email and we will invite you or send you an invite to the discord and that's where we'll be putting all our info and we'll have chats and all that stuff for the Bible study . But that that's it . Announcement wise .
Speaker 1You know what I learned today ?
Speaker 2What'd you learn today ?
Speaker 1I've been working on editing the episodes .
Speaker 2Yes .
Speaker 1I was going to try to send you the trailer , since I've been working on editing the episodes . Yes , I was going to try to send you the trailer . Yeah , you can't send anything above 50 megabytes in file size .
Speaker 2Is that why I couldn't listen to it ?
Speaker 1Well , no , because I sent it to you on the Google Drive , but I tried to send it to you through the Discord . Oh , and so it's 50 megabytes for the free version and 500 megabytes for the file limit for the nitro , which is their paid version . Yeah , yeah and um , which is kind of silly , because I feel like that's not a lot either , because these file sizes are pretty big , like like two or three gigs for an episode .
Speaker 2So Google Drive . It is yeah , yeah , for real , and I still can't . Anyway , that's not here , or ?
Speaker 1there . Yeah , he still has not heard the third episode . Yeah , I'm going to get to you tonight . We're figuring it out .
Speaker 2Anyways , we're going to get into
Media Regulation for Child Safety
Speaker 2it . So tonight we wanted to talk about parenting and streaming . Is that how we word it ? Yeah , parenting and streaming .
Speaker 1Parenting and streaming services . Yeah , essentially , if you let your kids watch streaming services , you're a terrible parent . Yeah , that's what it is yeah , that's what it is .
Speaker 2I'm not going to lie In preparation for this . It was more so for me screen . I don't know why on my brain I had screen time . We can talk about that too . That's what I prepared for , uh , but I think it will go hand in hand with streaming .
Speaker 1I think so for sure , yeah , so so like something that I've noticed because I'm always noticing things is how awful a lot of media is out there yeah just on .
Speaker 1I think probably it's hard to say what the worst is , though I want to say youtube . I think youtube is the worst to hand to a child and say , have fun , because it's all awful , right . But like you hand your kid Netflix , at least to some degree , that is policed , probably not too well , but like YouTube isn't policed in a way that like it's just , it's a soapbox . Anybody can get up on that soapbox and say whatever they feel like , and they claim it's police , that they monitor this stuff , but then it's like all right . So I saw a video . It's relatively old , but I'm sure it's just gotten worse when it was .
Speaker 1And I'm saying that to say this oh , you know , oh , I let my kid on youtube . Kids doesn't work like yep , there is okay . Sure , your kids are not getting the full youtube , youtube for sure . But these content creators will mark it as for kids and still put inappropriate content hidden behind what is supposed to look kid-friendly . And I think the thing that I saw was um , it was like Anna and Elsa singing , and then it's like Mickey Mouse going around doing the thing , all terribly animated , and then it's just like out of nowhere , mickey Mouse just pulls a gun out and shoots himself in the head . Yeah , there's ?
Speaker 2um , this was years ago because I remember our oldest was really little and we were like looking into YouTube kids and like how to deal with streaming services .
Speaker 2Your oldest child , my oldest child , was little , he was like two , maybe three and uh , we found information that parents had , like you know , they pulled up youtube kids on their kids tablet and handed it to their kids and the kids went off and watched YouTube while the parents were doing whatever .
Speaker 2Well , there's one mom was kind of not really paying attention but then for one second kind of tuned in and heard something and she went over and saw that like , this video was like an hour long on YouTube . It's a long form video and in the middle of the video , so the front half of the video is kid music or you know , they're doing like dance stuff , really kiddy things , and in the middle someone's explaining how to commit suicide in the middle of the video , explaining how to commit suicide in the middle of the video , and so it's like there are really dark people that are in this world and they're going to take whatever area they can to do dark things . Um , you know , going away from streaming services and looking at games , like I remember roblox was awful like it's , and it probably and it is .
Speaker 1I've never played Roblox yeah , me neither . But Fortnite's the same way , yeah , which . I think those two go hand in hand as being the two largest community-driven games . And the problem with those is if it was just this baseline game , it's fine , yep . If it was just this baseline game , it's fine , yep . But what makes those games so popular is the customization behind . Go to this level , go to do whatever you want . People can create anything .
Speaker 2Yeah .
Speaker 1And so at that point it's impossible to tell what's on there as a whole . Oh , you can police it , but sure they might catch it . But how many kids have already seen this inappropriate content that is on this uh platform before it's caught ? Yeah , and then by that point the damage is done exactly because there was a .
Speaker 2I know that for a while there there was a server that was open to the public , but it was primarily it was run by and primarily , like the most people on it were pedophiles and was this Roblox or Roblox ?
Speaker 2And kids were stumbling across the server and getting on and the pedophiles were taking advantage of that and grooming kids in this server . And the pedophiles were taking advantage of that and grooming kids in this server and a parent found out that their kid was on it and went after the server host or whatever . And the server host was like well , we made it clear what we are and what we're doing here . I don't know how you can get away with being like we're a pedophile , right ? I'm probably butchering the story .
Speaker 1No , but you're right , it's a terrible , a terrible excuse to say oh , I'm a pedophile out here .
Speaker 2Well , on my , on my private server , and they just happen to come here it's probably not that they probably were like no , we're an adult server and so there's adult content . Not saying that they were pedophiles , but at the same time , it's like if you're in a kid game , because roblox is marketed as a kid game 100 .
Speaker 2And what makes it even worse is how accessible it is , because it is a free-to-play game and it's if you've ever played any online game before , you can spot a kid very quickly on any of these games , correct ? Whether whether they have their mic on or not , you can spot a kid very quickly on any of these games , correct ?
Speaker 1whether , whether they have their mic on or not , you can usually tell which ones are the kids what , based off of the how they're playing the game exactly . Uh , back , whenever I played a lot of online games , it was call of duty , it was um , battlefield and halo games that are M-rated games that kids shouldn't be playing but are yeah , but are . And the thing about that is because those games had a price to them . The audience in them were the target audience for the most part , unless you had the kids on there whose mom just said , whose kids said mom , mom , I want to get this game , it's okay for me to play . You know that kind of thing . They get the game , they're in it , but you didn't run into that many kids . But when you are in a game that's free to play , which is heavily accessible , and it is for kids , yeah , it's mostly kids going to be on that game yeah , we learned pretty quick when it .
Speaker 2So we'll get back into the streaming services , but we learned as parents pretty quick when it comes to gaming . Um , to be able to be a good steward of your kids and the in the games that they play , they can can't play online . Period , it's just . Yeah , period , it's just . You got to set that hard line . You can play by yourself or you can set up a private game that your friends can join you on .
Speaker 2But you know , it's like our oldest he's not , I mean , he's in elementary school , so it's not like he's got a bunch of friends that are playing video games with him , so when he plays with other people , it's you and me , and so it's like we just create a little Minecraft map and then we all get onto that map privately and no one can join us unless we know who they are , and that's as far as it gets . As he gets older and he wants to start playing those online games , um , you know there will have to be more rules , of course and it's also me , and me and my wife have talked about what we're going to do with our kids .
Speaker 1Yeah , and it's , you don't get any kind of screen where you can take to a different room where we're not around . Yeah , I think I mean , and that's personally what we have decided on . I'm sure parent other parents want to do , uh , whatever they want with their kids , um , but with that being said , I think this is more just like , also just a fair warning out there , if you're letting your kids playing on a game online under no supervision at all , these filters that they promise you in these games , they don't work , just period .
Speaker 2Kids are pretty smart , especially when it comes to technology . They figure it out pretty quick .
Speaker 1And also it's not always kids that are on here trying to bypass those things as well , which is a scary thought .
Speaker 2Correctamundo . Sorry , I'm drinking . Are you enjoying that ? I'm drinking my energy drink . But going back to streaming services , there are some . I mean they all have parent controls , right , parent controls , right , you know . So , as a parent , you can pick what uh film ratings you want to be visible for that account , be it a kid's account or whatever . Um . The downside is and you know like you can lock things and create pass codes . You have to have pass codes to be able to play anything on the service or whatever um . But , like for prime , if you want to get on prime , you you can set it to where it's locked with a pin and you have to input the pin to be able to access the app . Or if you want to press play on the tv to watch something , you gotta use the pin to unlock it to be able to play it right , and that's also on any streaming service .
Speaker 1There's also , again going back to it , the kids mode that's supposed to only show the kids content . I will say to that I don't trust it ?
Speaker 2No , because and here's the thing as Christians , there's a higher standard for what we let our kids , or there should be a higher standard for what we let our kids watch , and the world is not necessarily looking to meet those standards with most of their content , so remotely honestly yeah , if you're um , I think the biggest one is , again , it's a kid's show , but there's plenty of kids out shows out there now pushing the lgbtq whatever acronym agenda within it .
Speaker 1I know that your kids love Jurassic Park . There is a Jurassic Park show out there that shows up under the kids category that have gay kids in it . They wrote them as gay kids and then so now you have your kids . This is the thing I love . I'm enjoying this . That must be normal , because I love this . This can't be wrong Again , coming from a kid's mind . I'm sorry , but I'm going to say it right now . I'm sorry , not sorry . You're not born this way , born this way . There's not such a thing as gay babies out there . It is a no , it's a ideal ideology . Say it right for me , because I'm ideology , thank you . That is is taught now . Is it taught instantly , like I'm saying oh , be gay , be gay , be gay . No , it is something that is so subtle over time that you do believe that this is how you've always been .
Speaker 2Well , let me insert into this because , yes , I agree , I don't think that you were born with attraction to this or that or the other , but there is a spiritual force working in this world for the destruction of humanity and they will tempt you in any way that they can . Demons are are not stupid . They're very smart , they're very old and they pick up on things and they know what's what , what you're weak in , and so you know they're going to throw a bunch of things at people and you know , whatever sticks , they're like okay , that's where I'm going to hit hard . And so you know , if you're starting to feel same-sex attraction , that's something you've been hit with as a thought and you start to entertain it and the demonic force is like okay , they're entertaining it , I'm going to go hard in this area and push it . And if you don't have the Holy Spirit and you don't have the wisdom to test spirits , then you're going to keep on entertaining those thoughts until they start becoming your reality . And then that's when we get into these people that struggle , that they believe in Christ , but they struggle with homosexual temptations and tendencies .
Navigating Social Media and Demonic Influences
Speaker 2And it's not to say that every person that faces homosexual temptation ends up not believing in Jesus , because there's a lot of people out there that they face this , they struggle with it , they've had victory over it , they've overcome it . Some of them are still battling it right now , but they still believe in Christ , but they at least are at the point of . This is wrong . This is not what God created me to be . This is not how God created me . God's creation is this , and that's what truth is , and so I'm going to try and stay in truth rather than lie . Um , so , and there's Bible verses that we can um post with this podcast , that that show that you know God makes it clear . Same sex attraction is not from God , um , and it is . It is something that you have of your flesh , that is your own desire , that , if you want to be in the kingdom of God , you need to reject and hold on to the truth of the gospel . But yeah , getting back to what you were saying , everyone faces their own temptations and we need the strength of Christ to be able to overcome those things . And now , going back to parents , who are aware of this on social media , there is worldly stuff on all of them , on all the platforms .
Speaker 2I mean , there was one show that I think it was Amazon Prime released it and it's about a demon girl who's a demon , who's living life . She's like a teen or a tween or whatever , but she's like they're making her like she's a demon . This is a normal . I live a normal daily life . This is normal . It's okay to be a demon is basically what the undertone of the show is . I haven't even watched it . I saw an ad for it and I was like are you serious ? Like this is out in the open , right ? Like what are we doing here ? Um , and so that's where we've gotten .
Speaker 1You know , we've progressively moved as a , as a culture and something to say about that too Uh , something you see a lot right now , as well as what . That might not be a kid show , right , that might be created about a teen girl . It might be an adult show , but as an adult , that's still something you might need to consider not watching it is a kid show , oh for sure it is .
Speaker 2It's rated for kids , gotcha , yeah , yeah and it and it's . It's advertised as a , as a like , a kind of like cartoon network . That's kind of like the vibe that it gives off .
Speaker 1Okay , so maybe not like little little kids , but still it's no , I agree with you for sure , but again , my point being is , even as adults really need to deeply consider should we be as as adults be watching shows about demons as well ?
Speaker 2yeah , hold on , I gotta cough uh thank you , thank you um yeah , no we we should flee from the demonic , or we should fight the demonic and we should flee from temptation . Um , I would like to point out and this may just be me being crazy but the progression of the alphabet community . It started out with same-sex attraction and kind of moved on and kept on adding different things until the really hard hitter was , you know , transgender , Uh , and then COVID happened , and right after COVID it was full force , Like everyone has to accept this , and then they just openly started putting things out Like you know Satan respects my pronouns or like demons . They were openly like demons are cool , we like demons . And then the demons .
Speaker 1Essentially showing hey , this is the side I'm on , really , and there's even a .
Speaker 2There is a identity . I don't even know what you call it , but , like I want to be identified as what ? As this , and one of them is demon , and so it's like this stuff's out in the open now . It's not even being hidden anymore . The enemy is so comfortable with the hold that they have on people in the United States that they're okay with people just openly being like yeah , just make it all about us , make us the center of your world , and I think that the reason is . I think some of these people that are doing it they're fully aware like , yeah , demons are real and we submit to them and we worship them , but I think a lot of people are oh , there's no such thing as a spiritual world . So it's okay if I can use these , because they treat it like a fairy tale , right , right , it's like demons are just mythical creatures , uh , and we can play around with them because they're not real , when the reality is they are very real .
Speaker 1And going back , um again , uh , to streaming media and whatnot , uh , another sub part of that is social media and I think that , going back to what you're saying , I think when COVID hit , it allowed a lot more people . I mean , you had to , you had to , you had to be on social media , you couldn't go outside , yeah , so I think I fully believe that .
Speaker 2Well , let's be clear , you didn't have to be on social .
Speaker 1You were , true , but most people were on social media because they had to communicate with people
Media Influence on Beliefs and Behavior
Speaker 1. When you're on the Internet , you , when you end up finding your community that you relate to , that is the only thing you're seeing . Everybody's agreeing upon themselves yeah , and it might be a really small community too , but because they're all within this small , close-knit community , I'm right and you're right and my viewpoint Becomes an echoing chamber Echo chamber , and everybody within that small community all of a sudden is right about their sin . Oh , my sin is okay . My sin is this . No , oh , you know what that is . You're actually transgender , you know . Instead of needing to get mental help , that kind of thing and I a hundred percent believe that is the case is we had so many people out there .
Speaker 2That's why we see it so much more now yeah , after covid , people are finding um they're not finding truth they're finding community yeah , they're .
Speaker 2They're not finding good relationships in real life , right , and so they're . They're fleeing to online to find acceptance , um , which you know there's a . I'm not I'm not a psychologist , I'm not an analyst , um , but there's a lot of information out there that kind of shows that these younger generations are spending more time online , um , and along the lines of that , where screen time has increased , so has things like depression and anxiety , right , and people are trying to find a cure for that , and so they're willing to go wherever , um , and they're not seeking it in God , um . But I've got a statistic here that , as of 2021 , the average screen time per day for a child between 8 to 12 years old is 5 hours and 33 minutes . So that's a solid . What's that ? Like ? A third of your day is just screen time , right , and so a third of your waking day .
Speaker 1Be mindful that that is some of the most important mental developmental time . Is that age range ?
Speaker 2Yeah , so there's a lot of time being dedicated to being online and that's everything . That's TV , video games , social media , web browsing , e-books , like everything . But it comes around to almost six hours of your day , which is a quarter , which is a quarter of a full 24-hour day is in front of a screen , and so that's a heavy influence on your life , like that's that would be . One of your primary influences is your screen . So what ? What are you allowing to influence your children and what and if you're a kid listening to this , what are you allowing to influence you ? You know what ? What are you looking at online ? Um , what are you looking at ? What kind ? What are you looking at ? What kind of games are you playing ? What kind of movies are you watching ?
Speaker 2Uh , cause , all of this is an influence you know , even as adults , the amount of time we spend on screens , which is pretty close to that , it's around five to six hours . Actually , I think it's six and a half hours for adults . For adults , um , that is all influence that we are receiving in our lives and it and it dictates what we do . I mean to the point where , depending on what you intake as social media and news will sway how you decide like to vote in elections and , uh , we will decide what your ideologies are , and it all comes from just what you're intaking through screens .
Speaker 1Right Cause , let's be honest , it's , it's very lopsided . Nothing , nothing is everything , is super biased . Nowadays we don't have any media that doesn't have any real kind of just . We made this to entertain or to develop . We made this to also push what we believe in as well yeah , whether it be for kids or adults , whether it be political or whatever .
Speaker 2Yeah . So taking that and moving in a different direction as believers , there is a statistic done by pewresearchorg Pew , yeah , p-e-w , p-e -W as in yeah the pew , it's a play on , but anyways , they they did or they took statistics for the average frequency of reading scripture among christians . So um 45 percent of christians , um read their Bible at least once a week . 12% of Christians read once or twice a month , 9% read several times a year , 33% seldom or never , and there's 1% that don't know .
Speaker 1Hey , I don't know . I don't know what I do .
Speaker 2And I think that because there is a an older generation , that that they still know they're believers , but their cognitive abilities , I think that's where that comes from . I I could be wrong , but I just . I mean , 45 percent say that they read their bible at least once a week . That's seven days , and it could just be like , yeah , I read it every Sunday . I read my Bible every single Sunday .
Speaker 1I'm in church and the pastor's reading it to me .
Speaker 2Yeah , so it's like I read my Bible at least once a week , but 33% of Christians admit to never reading their Bible . Now let's compare that to screen time Seven hours a day . As an adult , 33% of Christians are spending seven hours a day in front of a screen somehow , but they're never reading their Bible ever . And so taking that and applying it to kids , there is screens and streaming services and video games , all these things social media . Social media they are an influence on your life and they will . The information that they put out you are receiving , you're putting it in , and it's your responsibility . There's . We as parents should be responsible for our kids , but kids , you also have a responsibility to use the spirit to discern what is righteous and what is wrong . And how do you know what's right and wrong ? Through the Bible , through the Bible . That's that's what I will always say . The Bible is truth , god's word is truth , and our pastor at church says this all the time . It's not our job to take what we like from the Bible and make it work . It's not our or ? Sorry , no , I'm butchering how he says it , but basically paraphrase we don't take the Bible and use it to support what we believe . We go to the Bible and we see what it says and we change our view to that . So that's the idea , is we're conforming to God's word , not conforming God's word to our lifestyle , right ?
Speaker 2So there is a statistic , there was a study done and the term is called the power of four effect . So the research was done that basically , if you read your Bible four or more times a week , all right , these four things will happen . There will be an increase of 228% that you will be more likely to share your faith with others . There will be an increase of 407% . You'll be more likely to memorize scripture . You'll have 59% less likely to view pornography Sorry for small kids , the P word , I didn't , I should have anyways . Corn , yeah , corn .
Speaker 2And then 30% less likely to struggle with loneliness . That's a big one . You're 30% less likely to struggle with loneliness and I'm going to go ahead and just pile everything underneath that Anxiety , depression , loneliness , all those things that create isolation . That goes down by 30% just by reading your Bible at least four times a week . So now compare that to , if you're a kid , five and a half hours of screen time a day , or an adult , close to seven hours a day of screen time a day , or an adult close to seven hours a day of screen time ? Can you fit the bible in four days out of the week , you know ?
Speaker 1the answer is absolutely yes .
Speaker 2The answer is 100 . Yes , I think that it . As christians , it's our job to bring that statistic of hourly screen usage down .
Speaker 1Let's be honest , your show's not going anywhere and okay , and I want to say this too we are not telling you you can't watch tv . We're not telling you you can't play video games . No , because we talk about that stuff . Yeah , we love video games , but , um , be mindful about what you watch and how much time you put into it , because what you , as a person , put your most time into is what you make your God .
Speaker 2Correct and for those who struggle with looking at things online that are naughty like corn as Jairus said .
Speaker 1Can I say something ? Say something yeah , go for it .
Speaker 1I say it if we , if we get booted off this platform , we'll move to another one . Just , I'm tired of the the stuff that you have to have special code words because you're worried about getting demonetized . Oh , we don't worry about . We're not monetized . Yeah , yeah , we're . I mean , if we are , we're gonna lose it quick . But like I'm tired of it , like the little co-words of you know the things you're not supposed to say and we have , like it's like saying to me , it's like saying GD instead of the curse word . You're still saying it which we don't say , we don't say . I said it in that one point as an example , correct , but your intent's still there , you're still . I , honestly , are still taking the lord's name in vain if you say that instead of the actual cuss curse , the same way with saying crap or all these other things .
Speaker 2The only gd that we say is gold dang . Even that , sorry , oh , I was saying just .
Speaker 1You know , whenever all the relatives get together , but seriously , like when you have special code words , you're still saying the thing yeah , it's .
Speaker 2It's not about . It's what's coming out of your heart , not what's not what you're putting in and , and that applies both on the monetization side and having your special thing .
Speaker 1Oh , I'm not actually cussing , you're saying it . You might not be saying the exact thing , but your intent is there . That's a little side rant , but we're not going to sit here and censor ourselves . So , instead of naughty , go ahead . Psalms 119 .
Speaker 2How can a young man keep his way pure ? By guarding it according to your word , your word meaning God's word . John 15.7 . If you abide in me and my words abide in you , ask whatever you wish and it will be done for you . Now don't take that out of context and say God , I really need a yacht . I abide in your word , your word's in me , so give me a yacht because I'm asking for it . That's not what this verse is saying . Hey , god , I need a yacht .
Speaker 2This verse is saying that if you abide in God and you abide in his word , your heart will be conformed to God's will . And when you ask , god will provide , because you are asking according to his will , not your own will , correct . So just an important note there by reading God's word and abiding in God's word , your heart will be conformed , not the other way around . God will not bend towards your will , you will bend towards God's will Right . And then second Timothy 3 , 16, . All scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching , for reproof , for correction and for training in righteousness . Big idea there at the end , god's word is excellent for training in righteousness .
Speaker 2If you're a believer , if you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior , then to be able to live out this new life in Christ , read your Bible , life in Christ . Read your Bible . Don't be nursed by someone up on a stage every Sunday . Look into God's word for yourself . Read God's word at least four times a week and see how your life is transformed . See how desperate you become for further in the gospel . See how desperate you become for wanting to do what God wants and not what you want Um something else to say about that .
Speaker 1Your pastor might be wrong .
Speaker 2Pastors are 100% human right .
Speaker 1I'm not saying your pastor is wrong , I'm not telling you to go out there and try to prove him wrong , but don't trust a hundred percent what he is saying . I'm not saying your pastor's wrong . I'm not telling you to go out there and try to prove him wrong , but don't trust 100% what he is saying , 100% of the time , 100% of the time . Go out and learn it yourself as well .
Speaker 2Yeah .
Speaker 1And if you have questions about it , ask yeah , but that's also a difficult place because you do need to have somebody out there helping you with the word , because otherwise you will start . You can read the Bible . You might start saying , oh , this is what this means and it's not what that means .
Speaker 2Well , and that's the importance of community and Christianity . Right Is it's holding each other accountable . So you know God . God makes it clear what's righteous and what's not , and he , he calls us to his word and tells us to be in his word , and the spirit will teach us and train us , uh , in God's word .
Speaker 1And the moment that somebody starts taking God's word out of context or using it wrong , wrongly , or sitting there and seeing something that is obviously don't , do this and say I'm not going to believe on that .
Speaker 2Yeah , it's important , as believers , to come alongside that person and lovingly remind them of the truth of the gospel , remind them of the truth of God's scripture , and to abide in that , rather than taking it out of context for whatever reason they have , for whatever they're trying to do . Right , yeah , that's it , but I did want to give out another fun statistic about pastors 100% of pastors are 100% human and 10 out of 10 humans die .
Speaker 1Can you cite your sources on that one ? Yes , my sources are that's the way it is . That's the way it is Dot org , dot org . It's funny . I was about to make that same joke that say dot com , you went the cheap route .
Speaker 2To mess with people . I could have said dot gov , Dot gov . Oh man , the cheap route .
Speaker 1To mess with people . I could have said gov , gov , oh man , anyways , but seriously just watch what your kids are doing .
Speaker 2If you have not sat down with your spouse and come up with a game plan to be effective in ministry with your kids when it comes to screens , you need to do that . And this is me hitting on my own heart too , because I've got kids and , to be honest , there's some improvement that could be done when it comes to screens .
Balancing Screen Time With God's Word
Speaker 2I was talking to it . There's a teenager goes to my church that he'll sometime help me with work , and I was having a conversation with him when I was driving him home and I was like , dude , take everything in your life and ask the question how can I further the gospel of Jesus Christ in this area of my life ? And if you cannot come up with an answer , if there's no way for you to further the gospel in that thing that's in your life , you need to get it out of your life . It's not worth it , because if you can't bring the kingdom into it , if you can't further the kingdom in that area , then it's worthless .
Speaker 2Why are you building up your own kingdom ? You're supposed to be building up the kingdom of Jesus . Um , so you know that was good to to relay that to him , but it also was turning back around and hitting my heart as I was telling him that I was like dude . I need to reassess and realign . What am I doing ? What are all the things that I'm doing , and am I furthering the gospel in those areas and by doing those things ?
Speaker 2And if I'm not , can I ? And let's start doing it ? Or if I'm not and I can't , why am I wasting my time ? You know , it's like this is not my home . As Christians , we're not promised the world . We're promised eternity with God , and so the world is fleeting , the world is dying and those of us who are eternal beings that are just here for a time , why would we waste our time building up a temporal dying kingdom ? Right , you know , when we could be focusing on our home , our eternal home , which is with God in heaven . So big deal . And take that into consideration when you're talking about screens and how to do it . Another crazy idea .
Speaker 1Let me say something real quick . Go for it , Because I mean it hits home too . We're not perfect , Neither one of us are right . Nope , Something that we probably will do here a lot .
Speaker 2They still won't accept me in the Shriner , so I'm going to watch Jeez man .
Speaker 1I've been hoping that for you a lot . I've been hoping that for you a lot .
Speaker 2I've been praying for you .
Speaker 1But seriously , just me and John both struggle to be the father . Eventually I'll be a father , I'm sure One day , but anyways , we're struggling with these things too . And just because you know , it hit home with me that that statistic about reading the Bible I need to read my Bible more , yeah for sure . Just because and this isn't a way to deflect that but just because we struggle with that doesn't mean that you were wrong . Yeah , on a lot of things that we are talking about and I see that a lot too , it's like oh , since you're doing the thing you said I shouldn't be doing , why should I listen to you ? All our stuff is based biblically .
Speaker 2Yeah .
Speaker 1So just I mean , we're working on us too .
Speaker 2We're trying . We're trying to base all our stuff biblically True . Let's make sure that we make that clear . We are human and we're seeking to make everything about Jesus . That doesn't mean that we're right 100% of the time , you know and I I'll go and say I'm pretty sure you're on board with this too , Jairus Like , if we're ever wrong , just call us out , Please do . Yeah , we're ready to be corrected .
Speaker 1But with that being said too , just because we are struggling with that doesn't mean what we are saying is untrue , and it's something that you shouldn't attempt to apply to yourself as well . Amen .
Speaker 2So yeah , I was just thinking about this . How long is the average movie now ?
Speaker 1It's about somewhere between an hour 30 to two hours probably .
Speaker 2Yeah , so we'll just say on the conservative side an hour and 30 minutes right , we can carve out enough time in our day to watch an hour and a half long movie for entertainment , right , right ? Why can't we cut out an hour and a half in our day to read and reflect on our Bible , right ? You know what I mean . Like before screens out an hour and a half in our day to read and reflect on our Bible .
Speaker 1Right .
Speaker 2You know what I mean . Like before screens , what did people do ? They ?
Speaker 2I mean , if they had something to read and they could read yeah , they kicked the can , but I'm just saying like it seemed that we had guys that were , if they could read , they would read their Bible and they would read it a lot and they got some pretty hardcore revelations right . And it's just because they were in the Bible all the time and you see a lot of crazy like what are they called ? What do the Baptists do all the time with their tent meetings , revivals , revivals . You see a lot of real crazy revivals happening in times before we have screens and now here we are in the age where the most information is out there , Easily accessible , and it doesn't seem like there's a lot of crazy revival happening , except in areas where there's not an easy accessibility to screens .
Speaker 2So areas like North Korea , areas like rural China , areas like Iran and a lot of other Middle Eastern countries . The gospel is exploding and people in massive numbers are conforming to Christianity . And I'm not trying to say that screens are of the devil and they're distracting us from the gospel , but they kind of are .
Speaker 1They are of the devil and they're trying to distract us from the gospel .
Speaker 2If it's not God-centered content that you're taking in , then it's a distraction from the Lord , you know , and you've got to take it . You've got to make sure that you're weighing how much time you're putting into those things that have nothing to do with the Lord . Let's be honest it's probably rotting our brains . Yeah , yeah , probably , but you know what ?
Speaker 1I mean , isn't there something out there ? And this is all speculation , maybe you can look it up and prove me wrong or whatever . But like if if you let children have screen time too long and they become dependent on that and they get way more aggressive because you're taking away this thing that they've become dependent on .
Speaker 2Yeah , there was research done by . Who did it ? It was like Pew Pew , yeah , pew Pew , no , I've got the website right here , oh , national Library of Medicines , nih . They supported a study and basically their findings were you know it . There's benefits to screens absolutely educational purposes , and you know , with video games like it can develop your hand-to-eye coordination and problem solving can increase those abilities . But too much screen time can cause a stunt in development and cognitive abilities and can create a unhealthy dependency on the screen . It can become an addictive thing . But as I was reading it I was like looking at all the stuff they were talking about and I was like this sounds just like anything else , right , like too much . The only thing that you cannot have too much of is God's word . Correct , you can never have too much of God's word , but everything else .
Speaker 1I thought you were going to say water . I'm like , no , that's called drowning .
Speaker 2Yeah , water .
Speaker 1You can never have enough water no , because you hear that all the time is like you can drink as much water as you want . No , you can . You can die by drinking too much water I am .
Speaker 2I can speak from personal experience . If you drink too much water and one go you will vomit . You will vomit it all up because I've done that .
Speaker 1So there is such a thing as too much water . So again , like you said , if you have something medicine , you know all these things out there . You know if you have the right amount it'll cure you or you'll overdose .
Speaker 2I mean we're not going to get into that because I have a lot of negative things to say about medicine . But you're right , yeah , in a balanced environment it can be beneficial , but too much of it can cause problems . And it can be said about anything , I mean even exercising . If you exercise too much , your body will start to break down because it needs to heal . If you do not take time to rest when you exercise , your muscles will fall off their bones .
Speaker 1You have to break down your muscles for it to build itself back up . If you are constantly exercising , you will break yourself .
Speaker 2Yeah . So too much of one thing is not good , except when it comes to God's word . You can never have too much of God's word .
Speaker 1So that's the name of the episode , that's the name of every episode .
Speaker 2Okay , let me ask you this , since we're talking about screen time and media media sharing .
Speaker 2Okay and media media sharing . Okay , is it moral to share things ? Because everything's pretty much digital now , like it's not . Like back in the day , like when we were in high school , we all had cds , and so it's like I bought a cd and I wanted you to listen to it , so I gave it to you to borrow to listen to and then we could talk about it , or we could talk about our favorite songs or listen to our favorite songs together , or whatever . That wasn't frowned upon . Everybody did that because the CD was already bought . Somebody bought it and they're not reselling it , but they're sharing it with their friends , whatever . Now here we are where everything is subscription-based social media deal . If you buy , let's say , a movie on youtube and you download it , right and you know the back door to get the the file .
Speaker 1The file .
Speaker 2And then you email that file to me so that I can watch the movie . Is that wrong ?
Speaker 1All right let me ask you this , all right .
Speaker 2Let me answer your question with a question . Well , there's so many different scenarios and leading into it now , I don't find it morally wrong to a degree , this is the disconnect that I think that we have from the next generation , because I have a hard time saying that it's morally wrong .
Speaker 1The reason why I say morally wrong is because all of these things that were built Okay , so what you used to could do was on games , right ? Yep , they'd have it . This is not that long ago PS3 , ps4 era .
Speaker 2Yep .
Speaker 1You could do what was called game sharing . Yeah , and these things were built into their platform for families . You're supposed to be under the same household , but let's say , all right , I have all these games I bought digitally .
Speaker 1John had games he bought digitally yeah , you and I , we used to , we used to do this game share , yeah , yeah , so you would sign in with each other's accounts on your two separate Xboxes and then , through a workaround of making your account primary on mine and vice versa on yours , you were able to access each other's games all the way down in game sharing . Yep , that is built into the system to a degree . Yeah , is that morally wrong ? They built it in it . It was intended for the same household , but we were sharing it in two different households . Yeah , the same way with sharing a Netflix password . Yep , they built that into it until they didn't . Yep .
Speaker 2So yeah . So my big thing that I was going to say is we grew up where , if you bought it , it was yours , correct , and you could do with it what you wanted , as long as you weren't trying to make more money off of it .
Speaker 1Then you were good . That was kind of the big thing right Pirating was a big thing .
Evolution of Media Ownership and Content
Speaker 2I remember back in the early 2000s like don't pirate anything .
Speaker 1It was on front of every single movie , right ? Yeah , we do live in a time where we don't own anything . Now , if you look at the stipulations and the contracts and the private policies and all that nonsense when buying games digitally , now you're buying you don't own that game back on the when you had a hard disc and your full game was on that disc . That was yours Now digitally , and even physically . Now you are buying a license code to allow you to play that game until the company decides they no longer want you playing that game and they can patch it out , that you can no longer play that game , even with the disc . If you buy a disc now , it is maybe a small fraction of the game data to get you started , yeah . Then you download the rest of the game and it's really just more of an activation disc yeah , yeah , yeah .
Speaker 2so , but going back to that , like if you , if you bought it and you owned it and you were for free , letting somebody borrow it or check it out , you know , that was cool , it was encouraged , everybody was doing it , um , and so now here we are today , where everything's digital and it's online . Can I share my password to my streaming service with my friend ? Yeah , of course , I mean , I'm paying for it . I don't see what the big deal is . I'm just going to let him use it so that he can consume the same information that I am or the same entertainment that I am , so that we can talk about it later . You know , that's the idea , cause I mean , we share . We share a streaming service right now , you know , and , and we talk about different things on that service and we're not going to say which one it is , because we don't want them to find out .
Speaker 1But , um , with that being said , too is they are getting to a point now where I thought you were about to say .
Speaker 2Talking about that , I'm changing the password .
Speaker 1I don't want to get in trouble with this company , no , but like a lot of streaming services are backpedaling and you have to be under the same household with the same IP now , yep , so they're getting more and more away from . Is it morally wrong ?
Speaker 2No , but is it breaking their rules now , yes , and the only reason that they're changing it is because they need the revenue right , they need more people . They were all pro sharing passwords for a long time when the content was good , cause I'm not going to just breeze over the reality when the content was good , because I'm not gonna just breeze over the reality when the content was good . This wasn't an issue when the content started going downhill as far as quality and less people were watching .
Speaker 2They're like , okay , we gotta salvage this , we gotta make money somehow . Let's make it to where , if you want to watch this , you gotta pay for it . There's no more sharing , and that's really what it came down to is like there wasn't this , this wasn't an issue until Hollywood and streaming services just stopped doing good stuff .
Speaker 1Hollywood make better movies . Yeah , movie review real quick . Watched the new Mad Max . Did I talk about this already ? Yeah , we talked about it last week . Okay , never mind , we talked about it , it was do . Never mind , you talked about it , it was dookie . It wasn't dookie , it was just boring , so it was dookie , so it was dookie .
Speaker 2Comparatively to the last Mad Max movie .
Speaker 1Okay so newer movie , old movie , but watched it . Comparing it , I watched the wizard with fred savage in it . Have you ever heard of that movie ? No , it is a huge commercial for nintendo . Really fantastic movie yeah , made in 1989 , fantastic movie , okay , and it was just a good movie . I don't know , I'm just saying , comparing the two movies I've , that movie will stick with me .
Speaker 2Yeah .
Speaker 1Compared to Mad Max , which is I kind of forgot everything . Well , furiosa , there you go . Furiosa I have . I don't remember what happened in that movie . Both of them were watched relatively close to one another . Yeah , the Wizard . Guys , go watch the Wizard . That movie is really good . Guys , go watch the Wizard . That movie is really good . It's about let me just talk about this movie . Okay , it is about a kid who picks up his mentally challenged brother , who all he says is the word California and he keeps trying to run away from home . Okay , so this is his stepbrother . Okay , so this is his stepbrother . And , um , so he ? They put this , the mentally challenged kid , in a mental institution . The kid , his stepbrother , doesn't like it , goes and picks him up , take , breaks him out of the mental institution and he's like I'm taking him to california . And along the way they meet this girl and they come up with this plan .
Speaker 1They find out that the kid is really good at video games yeah and so they bring him to this video competition so they can win in 1980 , 1989 , 50 000 . Wow , and so it's they have . You know , the families are looking for him and they have a bounty hunter after them . It is a good movie . That sounds good .
Speaker 2And when was this made ? 1989 . It was made in 1989 .
Speaker 1Yes , and I'm not going to ruin it for you , but I'll ruin one thing about it for you and then not ruin another thing , okay . So a very popular Nintendo game was first showed off in this movie .
Speaker 2Just go ahead and tell me .
Speaker 1Oh , okay , spoilers to the wizard . So they're at the competition and they're like they train them up the whole movie , like with all the Nintendo , all the Nintendo games teaching them . And they're like and your final big game is a game you've never seen before , it is super Mario brothers three . Really yeah . And they're out there talking like you should know things about this game , like like one of the like they pick up a girl on the way . I think I said that already , but like there she's like grab the magic flute . Like how do you know about the magic flute ? By the way , that is like 100 , my favorite mario game .
Speaker 2Brothers 3 .
Speaker 1Yeah , it's such a good game . But it's so weird watching him play it at the end and he's like , oh , he found the magic flute , Now he can win , Like you should know about this .
Speaker 1But there was something else I was going to say about it . Oh , the other thing . So there is a part where there's a villain kid who's like the competition at the competition , the opposing force and it comes out . They come out of the first round and they're all mad and uh , they walk out and like this one kid gives this really crappy line yeah , he's like you , should you , should you ? You showed him luc , kind of line like that . To the left of that kid has no lines , but standing there . First movie appearance ever of Tobey Maguire . Really , yes , wow , tobey Maguire is in the Wizard with no lines and he just stands there like , yeah , you show him Lucas . Just like nodding his head the whole time . That's funny . After this is over , I'll show you but and maybe we'll link a clip to it or whatever but first movie ever of toby mcguire . He looks like he's maybe nine dude so he looks the same .
Speaker 2Yeah , got it . Baby face toby . Baby face toby mcguire . You know we talked about this , my wife and I on sunday . You know we talked about this , my wife and I , on Sunday In like the 80s and 90s , when you had a movie where , like , the main characters were high schoolers right .
Speaker 1The actors looked like high schoolers right In the 80s and 90s .
Speaker 2I'd say 90s . Yes , I'm cooking up to a point .
Speaker 1Okay , yes , yes , say 90s .
Speaker 2yes , like well I'm I'm , I'm cooking up to a point . Okay , yeah , sure , yes , yes . Things now from now and like maybe the past five years , same deal , like they're pretty good about casting people , that could could convince you that they're they're in high school okay the , the moment . This was when I , for me , this is when I noticed it , but the moment that all these the vampire shows and movies started coming out , all those people look like grownups . There was there was 100% .
Speaker 2None of them could pull off high school . If they walked into a high school , they'd be like I need to see your .
Speaker 1Okay , get this . Okay , get this . Terrible casting is what I'm oh for sure , and even now there's examples of like recent movies and tvs like that . Okay , hold on , let me show you this picture . It is toby mcgrath with a mullet with a mullet .
Speaker 1That's awesome . So , anyways , um , so , um . Hannah montana I don't think you've ever actually watched Hannah Montana . I've seen episodes . Okay , yes , good enough . So you are aware that Hannah Montana in that TV show has a brother , correct ? Okay , so Hannah Montana was played by a teenager playing a teenager . Yep , her brother in that show , who was only , like in the show , two years older than her , was 20 years older than her 20? . I believe the number is 20 . It was like a 30-year-old man no , playing Hannah Montana's 18-year-old old brother .
Speaker 2That's crazy in hannah montana but yeah , so getting back into that , like we just I was thinking about that . I was like , dude , what happened ? Like why did we take a hard pivot away from like typecasting , and then and then went back to it .
Speaker 1I guess at the time there was a lower standard . They were less harsh on kids at kid acting . This was the reason . Okay , here we go .
Speaker 2Heart throbs , gross Heart throbs , in that time frame . It wasn't about them being young and cutesy , it was about them having manly characteristics . They had to look buff , they had to have nice jaw lines , they had to have excellent hair . I'm talking about for men , for women , you know , they had to look like a woman , not a , not a girl , you know . So which is really weird . Which is weird , but at the same time it's like that's what was going on . So it's like it kind of took you out of the movie , like out of the experience of the movie , because it's like I can't relate to . If I'm a 17 year old boy and I go in and I watch , I am number four for the first time and he's supposed to be like 17 in it , you're just like dude this 40 .
Speaker 2Yeah , that's not a 17-year-old guy . I'm pretty big for a 17-year-old and that guy is . I mean , he is like Hercules is real . That's kind of how it anyways .
Speaker 1So let me real crazy . So Hannah Montana , played by Miley Cyrus , correct , was born in 1992 okay . Jason Earles , who played her brother , was born in 1977 don't say that geez man , that's crazy .
Speaker 2Yeah , so if you can comment on the podcast , I want you to comment on what is your movie that you're like . That person is not a high schooler . Like what's what's the first one you think of ? For me it was the twilight .
Speaker 1I was like none of these people are high schoolers probably just all of the kids at the camp in Friday the 13th . All of the kids . Okay , all right , yeah , like who was it ? Geez , I'm blanking on his name Kevin Bacon , kevin Bacon's . In the first Friday the 13th movie , he was probably 25 . I don't know , I'm guessing , but you understand .
Speaker 2Yeah , yeah , but anyways , yeah , go ahead and comment on which movie it is for you . The first one comes to your mind . They're just like they're not teenagers . There's no way around it . They're trying to be one , but they're not . Yeah , do that and we're going to wrap this up so we got to talk
Dog Man and Other Cryptids
Speaker 2. Bow Wow , about the Bow Wow . And for those of you who don't know who the Bow Wow is , we're talking about none other than the Dog .
Speaker 1Man , I know that guy . No , you don't , no , but okay , he sells chicken eggs down by the quick trip . That's right you try to get . If you try to run away with his eggs without paying , he chases you like a dog and barks and tries to bite you .
Speaker 2Yeah , all right . So Dogman is another one of those cryptic creatures . That's right . That has a historical like people have seen it for a while , all right , but it's different than what we would call a werewolf .
Speaker 1Is it no transformation involved ? No , transformation .
Speaker 2This is a totally separate creature .
Speaker 1Something that always has dog characteristics .
Speaker 2This is straight up a humanoid body with the head of a dog . No moon , that's it . No moon , no transformation out in the sun still dog , man it is born a dog man .
Speaker 2It will die a dog man so , um , but it that's straight up what it looks like . It's like there's really humanoid , lanky creature that has dog features about it . Primarily it has the head of a dog , like a werewolf . No , I'm kidding , I'm kidding , no , dog , not wolf , dog , gotcha , no , but Midwest is where a lot of the sightings are brought up in America . A lot of the sightings are brought up in america , um , but people talk about how , like freaky the interactions are , because this creature , like according to people that have seen it , moves really fast and so does the guy who sells the eggs down by the quick trip .
Speaker 2Yep , yep the dog man , yep , yep the Dogman at the Quick Trip .
Speaker 1The Dogman Well D-A-W-G Dogman .
Speaker 2The Dogman , like it's not just one creature that gets around a lot Like . It appears to be that there is a , like a I don't even know how to say it A tribe or a people group , A pack , A pack of dog men , but no . So there is a saint in the Eastern Orthodox Church . His name is Saint Christopher , and he is depicted as a human with a dog head . And he is depicted as a human with a dog head , and all of his depictions and the story revolving around him has two explanations . One he is a dog man .
Speaker 1This guy needs to shave his face .
Speaker 2Yeah , like when I was reading the explanation , it was just , it was one of those ones where it's like that just seems like a cop out , like they were . Like it was a Greek guy and he was translating it from Latin to Greek and he just mistranslated . He had a moment and you're just like what ? Like translators don't just have an moment and then it sticks for thousands of years . You know , it would have been corrected , especially when it comes to the shirt , you know . So that's just my biased opinion . Shirt , you know . So that's just my biased opinion . But , um , it is pretty interesting that all of his pictures depict him as a . There's like one or two that they put like a , like a donkey head , or or it's not . It's not a donkey , but it's more similar to a donkey than a dog . But most of his depictions are it's a dog head on a human body , and tradition says that he was a dog man . And then there was another one . I could not find it .
Speaker 2I heard this from another podcast that they found information that basically one of the saints from I want to say it's the third or fourth century church , they wrote an excerpt basically saying like the dog people , the dog-headed people are a ferocious and vile people but nonetheless , the gospel should be shared to them . And you're just like wait a minute , what ? Where is that ? What ? Well , so that's the the thing . I couldn't actually find it . Um , it's probably hidden deep in google somewhere , but this guy found it in , like an old the guy who was on the podcast , who was being interviewed about it . He found an old , like physical document that was , you know , logged in the catholic church or wherever , but he's able to find it and like get a copy of it , not like a physical copy of it , but like you know , like took a picture or found a picture or whatever . But you know , so there's history in in the church about dog-headed people . And then here we are , 21st century , and people are still seeing a creature like this .
Speaker 1It's interesting to me because , going back a little bit , you talked about them being in packs , something that I always kind of like in my mind for the longest time thought about cryptids . Cryptids being a single creature , correct , yeah , but the more and more that you talk about them , that is not the uh consensus no , it , it's like it's a type of creature , it's another animal .
Speaker 2Correct , yeah , yeah . But , dude , like the thing with the Dogman conspiracy is it tends to go hand in hand with like portals into , like another dimension . Like normally , when people are talking about the dog man , it's in areas where people are also talking about portals too , and so it kind of makes me wonder not to say that I'm like sold out on this idea and that I've 100% bought in John John's sold out . But what ? What are the odds of there being physical portals into another dimension ?
Speaker 1What's in this dimension ?
Speaker 2And so that's my point is what's going on ? Like where is this dimension and why does it seem like all these creatures that we kind of throw into the cryptid basket , they seem to all come and go into this area , you know ? So it's like these things that people see out in nature that they can't explain , like they can give a description but they can't explain it . Um , are also like being brought up alongside with , like yeah , they can go , they know where the whatever , whatever portal is and they access that and it takes them back to wherever they are , and then they come back here . And so it was just kind of weird that , you know , when you start diving into this for fun , cause that's what I do I just think it's fun Just to look at this stuff and hear . That's what I do .
Speaker 1I just think it's fun just to look at this stuff and hear people's stories uh , I don't know you don't hear john talking about this stuff when he's not on on mike . This is more than just fun for him this is my life's work you don't understand .
Speaker 2I've seen at least seven big feet , yeah , seven big feet , yeah , but one guy only had one um that was .
Speaker 1That was the guy that was dog man at the quick trip he only has one foot , but it is big 100 yeah , so , yeah , that that's that's all .
Speaker 2I have nothing crazy about the dog man . Just I thought I was interesting that there's like church documentation about it and , um , it's just weird . It's just another one of those things that it's just weird . But I want to go on and say that , like when we talk about another dimension , I want to say it's like a demonic realm .
Speaker 1Yeah , not to say that like the thing is is when you get into saying about portals and realms and dimensions , right , you start to then say time travel and all this nonsense . And then , honestly , in my opinion of it , when you get into that nonsense , you start to get into a realm of well , how many times did Jesus die for us ? You know , is there another dimension where he didn't die for our sins ? And you know that kind of stuff . I don't believe in multiple dimensions for sure . So when I bring a sense of like , you go Rick and Morty style , you go to the realm where everybody's a hot dog or you know that kind of idea of like . Oh , you step on a butterfly and it changed the course of everything in a way that now everybody has no left arm . You know a parallel universe . That's what I'm trying to go for .
Speaker 2Yeah , no , I don't believe in that either , and I don't think anyone else does . Who talks about these portals and the dimensions Think , and I don't think anyone else does . Who talks about these portals and the dimensions Think of it as a coin . So so , two sides of it , stranger Things , upside down , I guess . So , yeah , yeah , I've never seen Stranger .
Speaker 1Things I haven't , they go about . Where it's a , it's a realm that is mirrored , like you said , a coin on the other side , but exists parallel and people use that as a reference .
Speaker 2So the upside down from Stranger Things people in these camps they've started using that as an example because that's like now that's a pop culture thing . You know , before Stranger Things was out people were talking about this and everyone's like you're wacko . And now Stranger Things is out .
Speaker 1Put it in an entertaining way that they can see can , can people can relate to it . Yeah , yeah , oh , I know exactly what that is .
Speaker 2Yeah , and so now they're like oh , I see what you're talking about you know , and okay , so oh , you reference pop culture . Now I know what you mean . These younger generations are more willing to receive the idea of cryptids being real than you and my generation . I don't know what the causation for that is . Screens , yeah , probably so , um , but anyways . So , yeah , it's a fun thing to think about , talk about , but yeah , I don't think that there's another dimension .
Speaker 2I think it's that it's , it's a demonic realm it's a demonic realm , and maybe I shouldn't call it a demonic realm , but that's what I'm gonna call it . Um , so basically , this portal is something that you go into and it's kind of like the veil doesn't exist there . The veil of the spiritual doesn't exist there . So the demonic forces are physical and tangible . They can't hide in that realm and you can see them Because here things manifest . People have witnessed a physical , demonic thing , entity , in this realm , but it seems to have the ability to disappear or go away . So where does it go ? And that's the idea is that this other side is just the other side of the veil , where these things hide .
Speaker 1So if you can go there , you know if you can find a , if you stumble into a teleporter , not a teleporter , a portal , they are now officially teleporters Teleporters .
Speaker 2Yeah , yep , yeah , kind like that uh game that we played for like a week I loved that game . What was it called um geez um dude , I can't remember , but it was by bungee .
Speaker 1It was by bungee , give me no , you had your hand on your mic and it was buzzing . Jairus was giving me the signal Stop . What was it ? I loved playing that game . I'll tell you in a minute . Hold on , give me just a minute . I love playing that game . I think I played it way more than you , but it wasn't made by Bungie , it was a Halo-esque .
Speaker 2No , bungie was the maker of it . No , they weren't , wasn't it ? I thought it was .
Speaker 1No .
Speaker 2It was an O2 . I bet you it's on my Xbox thing . I bet you I could pull it up .
Speaker 1Yeah , let's do that Vamp and I'll see if I can find it too Vamp . Vamp like stretch out Just thought about some nonsense . Oh Well , no , that's pretty much all I had , Because they just had like a big update come out and I really wanted to go back and play it .
Speaker 2Yeah .
Speaker 1It's actually on my . I have a clip of me doing super awesome on my YouTube prank channel because I didn't know where else to put it .
Speaker 2I don't want to brag or anything , but I'm pretty good at it .
Speaker 1That's irritating me . I don't remember it . That's irritating me , I don't remember it .
Speaker 2Yeah , yeah , I probably got achievements for it .
Gaming Chat and Movie Memories
Speaker 1Splitgate , splitgate , here we go Got it that game . So it's Halo mixed in with Portal . You shoot a wall and then shoot a portal on another wall and you can kind of teleport through that portal .
Speaker 2Yeah , but it's designated right . It's designated walls that you can open .
Speaker 1Yeah , but that's how Portal is as well .
Speaker 2If you're talking about the game Portal , yeah , which I've never played , just so people know if I'm ignorant .
Speaker 1It's one of the best written games ever . I think you actually really would enjoy that game Cool . One of the best written games ever . I think you would actually really would enjoy that game Cool . The writing and the comedy in that is like just spot on , just dry dark humor . Okay Good , it's great .
